Hey FREEPAHS, Shut the HELL UP about socialism.
Edited on Fri Oct-05-07 08:17 PM by liberaldemocrat7

Do not call the fire department when you have a fire in your house
nor call the police if you need them to come to your aid.

Do not travel on the roads and build your own.

Dig your own water well.

Build your own outhouse out side your home.

Don't go to the library anywhere in this country.

The police department, the fire department, the highway department and the water system and the sewage system and our public libraries each appear socialized.

The police and fire departments do not ask for your credit card when you call them. Most roads do not have toll booths. You do not pay for each glass of water you drink nor do you pay for each flush of the toilet right then and there. The librarian asks you for your library card and for the most part not your credit card unless you want to borrow a rake or a lawn mower. yes libraries do loan out some strange items.

For the most part you pay taxes to government and you get the services without paying right then and there.

We should have that for medical care for everyone.

DAMN FREEPAHS. STOP ACTING STUPID AND GROW THE HELL UP.

If you have financial problems blame your damn cheap labor employer and not people who work hard and need help from the government because they lost their jobs or cannot find a job, or got disabled or worked decades and retired.

SHUT UP FREEPAHS.

out of a car crash, but to have to get your wallet out once they take you to the hospital.

If you ask them, it turns out that most people are in favor of unions, higher taxes on the rich, government health care and a proper social safety net. Go figure.

31. Hard to believe
when one looks at the 'leadership' but indeed quite true except for the sizeable group who've fallen for the corporate lie that is libertarianism...

Disclaimer: This is not a conspiracy story, though it has all the elements of one. Anonymous shadowy figures, international “societies”, complete political “ideologies” created for convenience alone, social institutions corrupted through the mere distribution of cash (science, politics, universities, governments and even the Nobel Prize), and a global strategy designed to “rule the world” – no doubt about it, this one is better than a novel. But, don’t get carried away. There are no secret ceremonies or lizard people in this tale. Nor is it a story about groups named after Italian light fixtures or German beer. It is instead the story of how “everyday conspiracies” work.

Karl Marx wrote that the ruling ideas of any age are the ideas of its ruling class. Looking backward, it is hard to dispute this observation, but how does it actually work? That is what our story is about. It starts with the businessman below and his simple frustration at the success of Marxism as an idea, first among his own workers and then amongst the American establishment whose wide-spread adoption of the appropriately conciliatory “New-Dealism” was entirely in response. In an economic system in which everything is reduced to a commodity, a man of means should be able to simply buy a counter-idea, shouldn’t he? So it turns out…

You have to pay them a fee each year. I don't know if they refuse to come if you don't pay, though.

"unaccounted for" in Iraq.

...When they come up with a cogent, coherent rationale -and no, "they hate us for our freedom so we're fightin em there so they don't come here" doesn't cut it- for the HALF TRILLION we've pissed away in Iraq above and beyond the billions missing, the millions in "reconstruction" money hauled out by no-bid contractors literally "in duffel bags", etc. etc.

...When they explain why our government wastes $40 Billion a year -not including costs of incarceration, mind you- trying to keep cancer grannies and Willie Nelson from smoking a relatively harmless plant.

...When they can offer a decent explanation as to what the fuck our government is doing wasting hundreds of millions of dollars every year on thinly-veiled Jesus proseltyzing disguised as "abstinence only" education, because everybody knows it's realistic to tell kids, some of whom may not get married until they're 35, that they MUST wait until marriage to have sex. I'm sure that the President's own daughter, who was "woken up at 4 am" by her boyfriend when he proposed to her, certainly must be practicing this "abstinence only" dogma. After all, how could her dad justify the estimated $1.45 Billion Dollar Price Tag of his total assorted "abstinence only" blather during his two terms.... if his own kids see it for the bullshit it is?

They can piss and moan and whine about "socialism" and "wasting our tax dollars" when they realize that the Military-Industrial Complex, the Prison-Industrial Complex, and to a lesser extent the Faith-Based Theocracy Complex (combined with the fact that churches are tax exempt) are THE BIGGEST GOVERNMENT GRAVY TRAIN BOONDOGGLES AROUND.

In contrast, Medicare, Medicaid, and other forms of "socialized medicine" are a fucking BARGAIN.

Edited on Fri Oct-05-07 08:47 PM by liberaldemocrat7

Jack Kingston complains about the Democrat party often on the house floor and a few days ago he complained about SCHIP and how Democrats use other people's money for helping children.

First of all Mr. REPUBLIKLAN Jack Kingston and FREEPAHS reading this, shut up about other people's money. 49 million people who voted for Kerry in 2004 want their money to help the poor, the disabled, the unemployed, the retired and those who need help from the government, because private corporations have demonstrated their mean spiritedness over the last century and a half.

Oh and millions of people don't want the Republiklan party to use other people's money for their illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq.

SHUT UP FREEPAHS about people using other people's money because Bush and his horde have used our money against our will.

Oh yeah, we've got other things rising too - more uninsured people (those not insured under the ponzi scheme health insurance industry we have in the first place), infant mortality (an incredibly appallingly high statistic), homelessness, those in debt...I think I'll stop. I haven't even scratched the surface.

18. They've almost won there
They have geared things to ensure that quality education will only happen in districts where people can afford to send their kids to private schools in the first place. More and more our children are punished for showing up to school, often physically, as the case of that girl who dropped the cake brought to light recently. Those who remain are subjected to mind-numbing tests, which doubtlessly contribute to the ever-increasing dropout rate...

Essentially the right has come very close to their goal of turning public schools into detention centers for poor kids

21. And...
- Enjoy paying more for phone service.

- Enjoy paying more for health care.

- Enjoy paying more for recreational parks, which use to be free.

- Enjoy driving miles out of your way to give your dog a place to run, since the property rightest destroyed comprehensive plan requirements which would have provided suitable parks within walking distance.

- Enjoy your stock portfolio crashing, because of poor regulation on Wall Street; and because until recently, we couldn't stop big mouth financial consulatants on t.v. from pushing stocks that they personally owned.

- Enjoy paying more for school for your kids. Textbooks and paper, use to be free, now, everything has a cost.

- Enjoy paying more for sports activities for you kids. Remember the summer club houses that were sponsored by the community? Gone. You now have to pay for everything yourself, and you can end up with a pedophile or embezzler coach because there's no one there to screen them, or screening can slip through the cracks because somebody knows somebody.

- Enjoy the raised resentment your dog-eat-dog philosophy has created. Wonder where American Apple Pie went? YOU ATE IT!

36. Nothing quite like having private individuals skimming a good bit off
the top of what would have been public funding for public amenities in the past. Oh, what joy to have lived under the past 27 years of far-right wing government in the UK, and seen the country's infrastructure pillaged by the lowest of vandals!

Indeed, we have the ultimate kakistocracy; when the political fronts of the first two Commandments are not even bothered with any longer. Why should the vicious be hypocrites and pay tribute to virtue any longer, when they can do just what they like. No wonder the Continental Europeans both despise and pity us.

the toss, as if there could be any doubt as to the havoc and destruction they have wreaked in their own country and to their own people. It's not a matter of conjecture, it's a matter of universal experience, even among the wealthy, and you can read about it in the newspapers every day.

28. Well, see, I think roads should be funded like utilities....
Each city should have a road utility, that has to balance its budget, that can take in revenue through car registration or fuel fees or tolls or parking space surcharges or other vehicle-related charge. But unlike today, it would have no access to property taxes or other local taxes. The subsidization of automobile travel from general tax revenues is one of the things that has distorted our urban architecture. I guarantee you that that view does not endear me to freepers, despite its stance against subsidization. Next to military spending, the car subsidy is the freeper's favorite subsidy.

Police and fire services are true public goods, and more, they are self-limiting.

In any case, wanting the government to provide some services doesn't make someone a socialist. What makes someone a socialist is wanting to eliminate capitalism. Wanting a public fire station nearby merely means you're not a radical libertarian. Socialists aren't that concerned about fire departments. They're concerned about business generally, from local restaurants to computer makers to hardware stores. If your ideal world includes stock markets and their related mechanisms, you see the need for capitalism. If it doesn't, you're likely some variety of socialist.

And seeing the need for capitalism doesn't make one a freeper. The big difference between a social democrat and a socialist is that social democrats want a capitalist economy.

30. Here's an interesting op-ed that examines this issue:
"Just outside our nation's capital, in affluent Maryland and Virginia counties, they still build public schools when the number of school-age children rises above the number that the existing schools can accommodate. Beyond question, there are parents in Fairfax County, Va., and Montgomery County, Md., who could easily afford to send their kids to private schools but who send them nonetheless to the excellent public schools in their neighborhoods. They thus increase government spending and withhold revenue from the private-school industry, but I've never heard anyone complain about that. A free public education is a right, or, if you prefer, an entitlement in America, because the nation long ago decided that an educated population is a national good."

"Congress placed a bill on the president's desk that would expand the State Children's Health Insurance Program to cover most of those children, but Bush argues that it could benefit some people who would otherwise stick with private insurers.

By the same logic, no more public schools should be built in well-off communities.

The unacknowledged ideological secret of American life is that we have any number of somewhat socialized systems that flourish in plain view. The health-care system for veterans, which most analysts consider about the best America has to offer (and no, Walter Reed was not a VA facility), is socialized medicine pure and simple."

Just a minor nit, but I have my own well and my own septic system as our town isn't urban enough to provide water and sewer services. The alternative is not 'build an outhouse'.

That said, if we did not socially regulate building and land usage, my neighbors could overdivide and overbuild and I would have their shit in my water.

And that's where this regime wants to take us.
