Recollections from the 06 turning of Missouri blue

I just wanted to share some fond memories of 06 election night.

First, I know that Claire McCaskill has voted with the stupid on national security crowd once maybe twice. For the most part (like 98% of the time) she has been a consistent Dem bloc voter. So, yes, I still believe we did the right thing by turning Missouri blue and sending Bush butt-hemroid Jim Talent packing.

Now to the story.

I was, as I do every election cycle, watching the slow corporate network news and posting on DU, where you get the real scoop on election night because our people know what they are talking about at the various local and state levels. Well, Talent was winning by a near 6-8% statewide all night and the MSM was all but racking it up for the stupid on terrorism club. As I was looking through the SOS and CNN county numbers I noticed something the MSM was not reporting.

It isn't the percent on election night that you watch, it is the percent from which county. Almost nothing in Missouri has came in from Jackson County (KC), and St.Louis city/co. I started posting on DU that Missouri is not only in play but Talent is losing. Some were suprised but many understood what this meant in terms of numbers.

Then, the urban votes came in, one update later Missouri was blue. When the rest of the urban vote came in it was not only over but Talent lost by 46,000 votes, say the population of Jefferson city in 2012. Got to love it, and we are doing it again in 2008.
