I am *so* proud of my employer |
|
No, I don't make a ton of money. I don't have great benefits, I have good benefits. I'll probably stay doing what I'm doing right now for a long time. I don't get a ton of vacation or sick time. I work hard and get little recognition for the job I do.
So why am I so proud of my employer?
I'm an electronics tech who repairs sophisticated circuit boards each consisting of four industrial processors, 40 active electronic devices and over 2000 1206 and 805 SMT components. I do this in the company of an assembly force consisting of primarily Latinos. I respect my boss for hiring decent, hard working people, despite the communication problems that arise from time to time. Personally, I enjoy the cultural differences between us. During the course of the day, I teach them English. Likewise, I'm learning Spanish, to the point where I'm almost speaking it fluently.
I respect my employer for doing his part by manufacturing electronic assemblies in-house. He could save a fortune by getting the stuff from the Pacific Rim, like so many manufacturers do, but he runs SMT and wave soldering operations, and all the operations that support them, in house. Having the stuff made overseas he could reduce his workforce by 60%, and save a ton of money in the process. He chose instead to do his part, infusing money into the American economy, and providing jobs for over 75 people.
If he ever chose to import our product I would still have a job. Others would lose theirs, but I would keep mine. I would probably make out better also, but I much prefer things the way they are now.
So much of what we consume is made overseas. I just wanted to share this.

Good for you. MKJ
It's your win/win situation since you "prefer" people not lose their jobs, but it's OK if they do because you keep yours.

5. That is not fair, the OP did not say anything like that |
|
You completely took that quote out of context, it was followed up by this sentence "I would probably make out better also, but I much prefer things the way they are now."
The OP author was not calling it a "win/win" situation for themselves, in fact they were saying that even though he may make more money for himself if jobs were shipped overseas they would prefer to see others given a chance to get ahead. They were saying that even though they may make more money in the other system, it would still be a loss for them to lose those employees. There is nothing selfish about that position, please lets not take things out of context to make people look bad.

8. There is a Chinese flag flying outside of my place of employment |
|
which is in Wisconsin. Ten years ago this wouldn't have weirded me out, but now it makes me feel very uneasy. The company CEO is in China. Oh yeah, there's an American flag too.

11. Many companies have American flags. In the bathroom. |
|
And there's a sign posted next to it. "Please wash hands after using flag."
Multinational corporations, especially foreign-owned, aren't interested in protecting and encouraging the creation of American jobs.
