Poll question: Do you like the Democratic representation you have in Congress? |
|
Edited on Sat Oct-06-07 12:02 PM by cali
How do you think your dem reps are doing? (If you have a puke rep, you have my deepest sympathies.)

1. Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenaw ... |
|
...are my senators. Sandy Levin is my rep.
Though, I can't say I agree with them 100% of the time (I wanted to choke Stabenaw over the "MBNA" bill) ... all in all, they do a good job.

2. Add the "a" to Democratic |
|
And No, I don't like the representation I have in Congress.
Boxer and Feinstein have shown many times that they are more willing to cover their electable butts, rather than showing spine and taking a stand.

Seems like he's something close to 2-3 steps below Lieberman...maybe even less.

Patty Murray, despite caving on a couple of minor things, is pretty good. Maria Cantwell, pure politician, blows with the wind and the polls.
Brian Baird recently decided that the surge is a good thing and we should support it.
I've informed them all that they are free to vote however they choose. So, am I.

4. I like my Congressman (Larson) and my ONE senator |
|
(Dodd) very much.
I don't consider the other senator in any way mine. I do hope the next election renders him as inconsequential in fact as he already is to me.

6. I like mine. And usually, but not always, agree with them. |
|
They are: Pat Leahy, Bernie Sanders and Peter Welch. I think they're as good or better a delegation as there is.

7. I traded Orrin Hatch for Sens. Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray... |
|
and I love Rep. Jay Inslee, who replaced Dem Rep Jim Matheson, a congressman I voted for, who would use Bush in his campaign commercials, and votes mostly w/the 'pubs. The alternative was SOOOO much worse, if you can fathom that. I don't have to hear about that asshat Cannon, either. Sen. Murray voted against the Moveon.org censure and consistently votes with the Dems on almost every issue, which can be a bad thing if they're voting to give Bush more money for his war, but you can bet I'm ecstatic about the trade.

though lately he seems to be sucking up to the leadership. Jay is ambitious, but I think his heart is in the right place.

12. Gwen Moore is my House rep |
|
and for the most part she does a pretty good job...though I wish she'd sign on to Kucinich's impeach Cheney resolution
other than that though, I've seen no reason to not vote for her again in 2008
one of the perks of city life...you are pretty much guaranteed a fairly liberal/progressive representative, at least in the House

Basically, he is a bonafide DLCer who may as well be a Republican in most aspects. I'll still continue to vote for him because I want the Senate to remain in Democratic hands (besides, WHO ELSE am I going to vote for unless he gets challenged in the primaries) but he is way more to the right of where I am on most issues. In Indiana, however, I will say that there are, overall, very few elected or "electable" bonafide liberals/progressives with the 10th District's Julia Carson being one of the few exceptions, although she may be on her way out if her health continues to deteriorate. Amazingly, many right-wingers in my hard "red" state STILL label Bayh a "liberal" with a straight face, which I think just proves my point that, to right-wingers, ALL Democrats are tarred with the "liberal" label regardless of their actual voting records. Lugar (R) holds our second Senate seat and the Democratic party doesn't usually bother to run anybody against him but I have to admit that he is (to me) one of the few semi-respectable Republicans in Congress and have pulled the lever for him once or twice. As for the House, my district is represented by the odious Dan Burton *ugh* who, unfortunately, will keep his seat until he resigns or chooses not to run again neither of which seem likely anytime in the near future. *sigh*

13. Murray and Cantwell in the Senate, Larsen in the House |
|
Murray is kind of an inside player, hard to evaluate. This is the first time she's been in the majority. She's solid on environment, social justice, the basics. Cantwell took a while to find her footing, but a well publicized clash with Ted Stevens over ANWAR seems to have emboldened her somewhat. She blocked Stevens efforts to get oil rigs into the Refuge. Stevens was all threats and bluster, threatening retribution, but she stood her ground. Since then she has seemed more confident. Larsen is a moderate from a suburban/blue collar district that's growing and changing rapidly. He's ok, but he voted for the bankruptcy bill and one or two other pieces of shit that got my hackles up. None of them seem to share my passionate loathing of Republicons or my desire for payback. I don't want moderation. I want blood.

For a rep who hasn't been in Congress all that long has done quite a bit. I also like my Senators Mikulski and Cardin (although he is invisible for the most part)

Casey would get "ok, but looking for a progressive challenger."
My rep, Jim Gerlach, and the other Senator, Arlen Specter, are both Repukes. Not among the most conservative members, but still mostly bark and little bite.

senators are Durbin and Obama. I think they are doing a great job. My congressman is repub Tim Johnson. I haven't ever voted for him and never will, though he does break with the party at times. The candidate who ran against Johnson in 2006 would have been fantastic, but received no funding from the DNC or DCCC. It's a shame.
