1. Well, since you asked... |
|
Funny how things work.
I was in the Gallery yesterday when one of our local apparel retailers walked in with a flier regarding Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Darla has a very cool women's apparel and accessories store here in Tiburon.
www.getkoze.com
50% of sales of anything with pink in it will go to To Celebrate Life Breast Cancer Foundation and Darla wanted to know if I would display one of those fliers in a window (no one in Town knows that Nina is in the hospital or anything else, for that matter - she doesn't want or need a pity-party).
I told Darla to give me four of them.
Right then, the phone rang.
It was Nina.
Said she was leaving the hospital at 1:30, 24 hours after she hit the recovery room.
And she sounded great.
I am floating, simply elated.
Sometimes Life brings you Lemonade.

I have been trying to glue myself together and write something here about how much the support and wonderful energy I/we received here meant to me.
But words fail me, right now.
musette_sf and I were sharing some wine in Tiburon the other day, talking about what a wonderful (if sometimes fractious) family Democratic Underground can be. About how folks here will lay aside their differences and go full-bore to support a fellow DUer who is in need of a bit of TLC.
At the time, I had no earthly idea that someone might be me.

16. I just got off the phone with her. |
|
She was out walking around her quiet neighborhood under the redwoods.
Said she felt great.
Can you imagine that? A mastectomy on Thursday and you're walking around on Saturday.
I truly believe the last few days have been more of a blur and mental trauma for me than for her. And she's got the morphine!
Thank you for your support, spenbax, Tom

17. Morphine? Wonderful Stuff! I swear by it! |
|
I take 30 milligrams every day
on top of 50 micrograms an hour of Fentanyl (by transdermal patch)
Good for what ails you
Almost as good as pot

18. No shit! I devoted more than half of my adult life to derivatives. |
|
Speaking of morphine, a friend of mine had surgery to fuse some neck vertebrae a few weeks ago.
When they were preparing her for the move from ICU to a regular room, they were to give her 30mg to ease the pain caused by the move.
A nurse popped her with 300mg.
ODed, stopped her heart. But they revived her.
I didn't even know they had syringes that big.
Morphine and Fentanyl?
Man, too bad you can't afford some fine Single Malt Scotch to top that off with.
You would be in a fine place.
Maybe if I ever have some extra cash, I could send you some Macallan 18 (or older).
But I do not want you to lose that fine jagged edge you always have, Wiley.

Actually, I've had Glenlivet before and it was ok.
(although I think a better use for rye is with pastrami and swiss)
But, my budget seems to only fit Busch (the beer, not the fascist)
Though, sometimes i splurge on a taste of brandy
(E&J, although I pretend it's Courvasier )
But there's nothing better than a weed that turns into a flower in your mind
(after all, that's why opiated hash was even invented)

23. Yep, nothing like it. |

I first smoke opium in Mexico in 1962 (I was twelve years old).
My life was changed.
I didn't smoke pot until three years later, while trying to tamp down a brain gone spikey due to a drowning incident that I managed to get myself into.
Drowning - The Ultimate Gateway Drug
At least, that's my excuse.

I used to date Stanley Owsley's niece, Karen.
Red hot and rockin' country girl straight outta Miami (pronounced Mi am ah), Oklahoma.
Her creed was pretty much the same as mine.
"Sure, why not?"
God, I am too old to be able to afford to remember shit like that - makes my blood pressure go up.

I remember trying to get the carpet and vinyl tile laid in a new housing project in Miamah the week between Xmas and New years. We fuckin' lived in the vans and only broke work to go grab a meal and snooze a few hours, cause the contractors were in deep do do if the floor wasn't down by midnight on the 31st.
I was a resident of Stillwater and then Tulsa for ten years
Don't think I ever told you that

32. So this Owsley chick... |
|
after I went away to serve my fucking country, moved out to Leon's place for a while and then she and this Cherokee Amazon hung around with John Lee Hooker for a few years.
We got back together after I came home, but I was CRRAAAZY about that Cherokee chick and it caused a lot of problems.
And we were all three of us with Bad Problems with the Bad Shit, which causes its own set of problems.
