A Technical Question...
IF...you took the following oath...where would you feel your loyalty belongs?

"I,(name here) do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."

Only two answers possible...which one do you interpret as correct?

The Constitution
The Commander in Chief...(President)

Thanks for answering...wb

1. according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice
That means loyalty to the constitution, and obedience to the president's lawful orders.

6. The KEY word there is "LAWFUL" orders.
Since he's broken the law from day one by LYING about why we needed to attack Iraq, he has forfeited his right, under the Constitution, to be "obeyed." He's a war criminal and should be treated as one. Off to The Hague!

5. The following quote is taken from a speech...
Edited on Sat Oct-06-07 09:12 PM by windbreeze
made yesterday...and this is what drove me to ask the question...

"I'm excepting the men and women here in uniform. You don't want to get involved in the political issues of the day. You can't. Your loyalty is to the CIC and your mission is to do your duty"

correct or incorrect statement?

14. So, who said it? If it was a high ranking military officer, that officer is breaking his/her oath
to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States..."

The military doesn't owe "loyalty" to the CIC, they have pledged to obey ORDERS from that office.

Whoever made that statement is betraying both the letter and the spirit of the military oath -- not to mention, betraying both the letter and the spirit of the Constitution.

It is a seriously dangerous statement that should not go unchallenged, made even more dangerous by its subtlety.
