At least five people were killed Sunday in a small town in the northern state of Wisconsin after a man, possibly a sheriff's deputy went on a shooting rampage there, news reports said.

The officer suspected in the shooting spree has been shot dead by police, CNN television reported. Local officials would not confirm or deny the report, but said, however, that the manhunt was over.

Local police officials have declined to provide any details, but news reports said the shooting spree occurred about 3:00 am (0700 GMT) in Crandon, population of about 2,000, not far from the Canadian border.

Some media reports put the number of dead at six. An undetermined number of people were also injured in the shooting spree.

4. I wonder if this tragedy will lead to Wisconsin changing its concealed carry laws.

Regular civilians are not permitted to carry a concealed gun.

The rest of the nation is trending toward allowing concealed carry.
