6. How could a fan of HGTTG not see the humor in it?
It's certainly in questionable taste, but there is a place for questionable taste. Improper can be fun.

I certainly wouldn't try giving her one for a gift. :scared:

7. It's Sexist As Hell
Amusing in a Neanderthal way, but sexist. Makes me sympathetic to the blatant misogyny Hillary has faced all along, and I don't even personally like or support Hillary.

Do you remember those old novelty "St. Peter" items? You know, where the 7 or 8 inch statue of the hooded apostle reversed to reveal that the back of the statue was basically a dildo? When someone comes out with a line of THOSE featuring the male presidential candidates, you know, to illustrate what pricks THEY are (because SOMEBODY doesn't like each of them, you know), and DU allows them to be advertised on its site, THEN I'll laugh lightheartedly.

But not until then.

11. There used to be a Reagan dildo
God, it's been years since I saw the advertisement. I can't find an image of it online, though.

Anyway, there's a big difference between a nutcracker and a dildo, or so I've been told.

14. Doesn't Surprise Me
Was it being sold through a link on DU?

Actually, I did think of a much better, more direct analogy, but it really would have turned the thread incendiary and gotten it locked. It involved another product with a racist "joke" about Obama. Ha-ha. Same principle, less commonly still acceptable in higher-thinking democratic circles.

Allusions to ball-busting and nutcracking are sexist insults against threatening and aggressive, or strong and achieving women. Like women who have what it takes to run for the Presidency. When all other arguments fail, you insinuate there's something wrong or incomplete with them as a woman, or else they couldn't or wouldn't or shouldn't compete with men.

Leave this vulgar crap in the novelty shops. It doesn't belong on DU. You don't "lighten up" about some things; you draw the line.

16. o rly?
"Allusions to ball-busting and nutcracking are sexist insults against threatening and aggressive, or strong and achieving women"

Are you serious?

Have you really gone your entire life without ever cracking a joke about men? Of course not. Men you didn't like? Of course not. This is the kind of illusory glass house that nobody lives in. Both sexes make jokes about the other, but you want to make jokes about women off-limits? Good luck with your cause. It's rather quixotic. It's important to recognize the difference between good-natured joshing and eliminationist rhetoric. You don't add anything to the argument by snapping your fingers and announcing, "Sexist!"" to the world.

DU has had plenty of ads that irked me. I never gave them a second thought. Is DU the sanctum sanctotum? No. It's a site trying to make enough money to pay the bills. And we're talking about a nutcracker. You're certainly entitled to your feelings, but that doesn't make it sexist. No one is calling for violence against women here. It is quite possible to make fun of and even insult an individual without making fun of and insulting every race, gender, religion, class and creed they belong to, as you well know.

19. Yes, Really, I Am Serious
And no, I don't think DU is the Sanctum Santorum, but I do expect better judgment from them, somehow, paying bills or not. I'm funny that way.

You don't add anything to the argument yourself by suggesting that my entire life should have been held to as high or higher a standard than DU, or my opinion-which I THINK you're acknowledging my entitlement to by talking about my "FEELINGS"-is less valid? Of course I have! I am a human being! However, tens of thousands of people do not observe every word I've ever uttered. And I don't sell anything, including "joshing" about men, from out of my glass house, either.

Among the ads that irked you personally, where are the products being advertised on DU that make fun of the male candidates through negative male images? Since we have an African American candidate, where are the "good-natured" racial puns about him? Am I missing something there?

Go ahead and make fun of Hillary and insult her; just stay the hell away from "jokes" that are totally predicated upon her representing a negative female stereotype. That's the whole point. Call her clueless about foreign policy, or a closet Republican, or a cold public speaker, if you wish, but call her an emasculating broad? That's when it becomes something more than a nutcracker; it doesn't need to get violent or call for violence against women for it to be insidious; whatever gave you THAT idea?

Blanket stereotyping is the very essence of sexism, and arguably for that reason, the "nutcracking female" is a symbol of "eliminationist rhetoric." And DU is facilitating its sale and exposure. My opinion.

Will the world end tomorrow because of it? No. Will my world end because you don't get it? No-I was concurring with the OP. But it is what it is, with or without me snapping my fingers.

The idea of that guy running this state for another 4 years is even more improper.

I think it's all Google ad logic based on the keywords it reads from the webpage.

24. Horribly misogynistic
Do you think they'd make a Laura Bush nutcracker? No, because she fits the stereotype of the meek, submissive wife. Hillary is strong-willed and feministic, so she must be a "nutcracker". If even a male chauvinist pig like me can see the idiocy of this thing, it damn well is misogynistic.
