John Brown And Nat Turner- Domestic Terrorists Or Freedom Fighters |
|
Edited on Mon Oct-08-07 07:13 PM by DemocratSinceBirth
I was in another thread discussing idealism and was about to say I would have been right there with Nat Turner and John Brown but upon sober reflection I'm not so sure...
Where do those two men fit in American history?

1. Didn't John Brown & Sons behead five men in Kansas after they had captured them |
|
and then leave their bodies on display? I'd say that crosses the threshold and goes waaaaay into unacceptable territory.

2. Considering they were fighting against slavery...where thousands of |
|
slaves were being murdered and/or raped every year..I think you have to call them part of the civil war. It was an insurection against tyranny of the few. Not much different that the War of Independance except for the heads being cut of. But that head cutting often happens in insurections..it is just the "old leader" who usually looses their head..not civilians.
