you, on the other hand, owe him an apology for being so impudent and disrespectful.

How can you not understand that sentiment? Him being who he is, he he has an obligation to HIMSELF to do the most he can do to change things. And becoming POTUS would be the largest step he could take in that direction. I will always think he is great for what he has already said and done, but I will certainly be disappointed and p.o.'d at him if he doesn't run. I might even say he wussed out. Can't help it. If he doesn't take that step, it will be harder for the world to take him as seriously as a activist, having demonstrated a less than 100% commitment to changing things. Maybe thats not fair, but its how I see it.

If I had breakfast with him I would say "You know Al, if you don't run I am going to be so pissed at you."
I don't think he would be offended, he probably would just shrug, maybe say "tough beans."

If he comes out and says "I'm just not up for being president." I can't hate him for it, I'm certainly not up for it either, but I would still be disappointed in him and pissed off at him.

I agree he doesn't "owe it" to anybody. Maybe #3 thinks he owes us for electing him in 2000. Besides, if people only did stuff because they "owed it" to others, then humans would not even be here.

130. Oh give it a rest.
I never said anyone owes him "royal deference". You're twisting what I said over the connotative meaning of the word "impudence".

How about we subtitute "rudeness" instead, to remove any royal confusions, leave the "disrespectful".

Do you think it's acceptable to be rude and disrespectful to Al Gore?

Has he done nothing to earn our deep gratitude and respect?

6. If he really doesn't want to be President...
I don't think he should be pressured to run. The next President is going to have one hell of a mess to clean up, and Gore seems pretty content doing what he's doing. If he ran, I'd sell my soul to ensure he took his rightful place in office this time around.

al gore, al gore, al gore, al gore, al gore, al gore

seriously, sir, you are the only one. and that is my 2 cents.

THE TWO CENTS CAMPAIGN
Show Al the Money!

If you want to do your part to help convince Al Gore to run for President, join our two cents campaign. All you have to do is put two pennies in an envelope, and send them to Office of the Honorable Al Gore, 2100 West End Avenue, Suite 620, Nashville, TN 37203. You can include a note that you'll send a proper contribution once he announces he's in the race. We believe that Gore and his advisors will take note of this tangible evidence that America needs him to run for president. It is simple, won't take long to do and will only cost you half a dollar including stamp and envelope and, of course, the two pennies. So dive into the couch and retrieve the pennies that will represent your opinion.

Let's get Al in the race!

he has definitely left the door open on purpose. if we build it, he will run.

No ultimatums, no foot stomping, no looking for him to word his sentences a certain way in order to know that his heart is firmly set to doing what he has been trying to do for thirty years. This is what he went through the fire to get to. This is the result of him looking into the abyss and seeing his soul and finding his character. And this is what many of us will see when we look into our own abyss if we dare look... The challenge of a lifetime that requires a moral strength unlike anything we have ever seen before. A moral strength that far surpasses the daily political rhetoric, and a moral strength that is sustained like a slow burning fire every day for all our lives because it is kept alive by the search for truth.

That slow burning fire has been at the heart of Mr. Gore's endeavors for the last thirty years, and it is now time for the world to feel that moral strength in their own lives in order for us to be able to face the challenge of this generation and the next generation... the climate crisis. And it is not a crisis that will be solved by next year, or the year after, or the year after. However, it is one that we can and must solve, and in order to do that it will take men and women of conviction, passion, and dedication to see it through.

As a woman who loves my planet and sees the urgency of this cause, I then wholeheartedly pledge my support for Mr. Gore's three year plan to get this message out to change the hearts and minds of people globally in order for us to be able to create such a wave of demand for change that the political world on all ends will have no choice but to go along or be left behind.

Therefore:

I will continue to do all in my power to continue to demand changes in business, government, and in my own daily life that seek to limit GHG and bring about progress.

I will continue to do all in my power to live my life according to the Live Earth pledge and reduce my own footprint upon this world even further than I already have in order to leave it a better world for our children and those to come.

And I will continue to do all in my power to be a climate messenger to spread the word and to inspire others in doing what they can to be a part of the solution.

You see, in the last thirty years for Mr. Gore in the political world that was not something rewarded. As he stated on The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch on July 5th, "pre dawn" ideas in politics are not rewarded, they are mocked and discarded as undoable with the evidence and the reason to assess that evidence pushed aside in favor of only doing what politicians believe to be up to the minute sound bites that will get them the most mileage.

That is not now how this crisis must be approached, and I agree with Mr. Gore wholeheartedly that this way will be the best way to bring about a political mass not only in this country and abroad to force leaders globally to see that this is not something they have a choice in doing. This is now something that must be done in order to preserve the continued sustainability of our planet in order to be able to sustain the human species and all other species.

There is no more important cause than this. Without that sustainability we have nothing else.

Therefore, I look forward to participating in this three year plan with Mr. Gore, The Alliance for Climate Protection, and all those on board in an endeavor that will transfer into a lifetime of challenges that will be hard but nevertheless rewarding in preserving this precious blue dot we call our home.

And I thank Mr. Gore for being the catalyst and the leader of a movement that transcends the boundaries of our moral imaginations for I believe this is truly the greatest undertaking not only of his life, but mine. He is better than a president because he does this out of a dedication not found in any political circles.

Live Earth was the start. Now as Mr. Gore has stated, OUR work begins.

And again, I can't believe such drivel makes the greatest page. Some really have jumped the shark here.

People need to hope for someone who is capable of solving problems that are desperately serious.

54. If Al Gore decides to run
He'll swamp any Repube. Maybe then, with strong majorities in both Houses, impeachment proceedings will begin to remove Scalia, Thomas and Kennedy, the remaining Justices who willfully, wantonly and illegally foisted the disaster known as the Busch (German spelling) Administration onto the majority that voted neither for failure, nor lying scumbags, nor war profiteers nor criminals.
Reelecting Al Gore will go a long way toward making us whole again.
And just for laughs, Busch and Cheney could be impeached and convicted in the Senate so as to demonstrate to the world that we the American people demand justice for humanity. Then a trip to The Hague and a trial for international war crimes might end the era of the United States of America being viewed as the World's pariah.
Al Gore is the lynch pin to erasing America's darkest hour.

58. Ok
But really his last good shot to announce is the first week in November. One year before the election or thereabouts he can say something to the effect of...

"I had hoped that engagement in the public issue of global warming/greenhouse effects from outside the system would be enough. I had hoped that raising the issue would inspire our current leaders, and those who would lead us to act. But now I know that I have been calling on others to act while I have been talking. I have called on others to write legislation on controlling greenhouse emissions while I have been writing books on it. Well now I must act...."

Or something to that effect. It should be a good speech. Failing early November I would encourage Gore supporters to seek out a new candidate.

77. The (un-) official Al Gore "maybe" campaign song
From The Freedom Toast
sung to the tune of the Beatles' "When I'm Sixty-Four"
Text reprinted by permission (there's more--this is an excerpt)

A) When I get older, still with my hair
Many months from now.
Would you still want me to be the candidate?
Or should I stay clear of the slate?

B)I would have liked to hear on the news:
“President Al Gore”
Would you still take me? Would you forsake me
If I ran once more?

C) (minor chords with “ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh”)
I’d be looser too
And if you say the word,
I’d still run for you!

A) I would take Georgia, Arkansas, too
When the polls have closed.
Minnesota, West Virginia, Oregon
I would car – ry e – ve- ry one!

B)There would be no State I would neglect
Not one speech a bore!
Would you still take me? Would you forsake me
If I ran once more?

MINIMUM WAGE--$4.25 to $5.15
MINORITIES--did exceedingly well
HOME OWNERSHIP--hit all time high
DEFICIT--290 Billion to whoopee a SURPLUS
DEBT----+28%---300% increase over prior 12 years
FEDERAL SPENDING--+28%---80% under Reagan- who da true conservative?
DOW JONES AVERAGE--3,500 to 11,800 all it's history to get to 3500 and Clinton zooms it
NASDAQ--700 to 5,000---all of it's history to get to 700 and Clinton zooms it
VALUES INDEXES-- almost all bad went down--good went up in zoom zoom zoom
FOREIGN AFFAIRS--Peace on Earth good will toward each other---Mark of a true Christian--what has Bush done to Peace on Earth?
POPULARITY---highest poll ratings in history during peacetime in AFRICA, ASIA AND EUROPE even 98.5% in Moscow--left office with highest gallup rating since it was started in 1920's.
STAND UP FOR JUSTICE--evil conservatives spent $110,000,000 on hearings and investigations and caught one very evil man who took a few plane rides to events. Period of shame. Spend $72,000,000 using a 200 acre land purchase as a base for attempting to destroy a government. Conservatives will live with the Black Mark forever.
BOW YOUR HEADS—“Thank you God for sending us a man of Bill Clinton's character, intelligence, knowledge of governance, ability to face up to crises without whimpering, and a great leader of the world. Amen!”
THANK YOU GOD FOR THE GOOD TIMES THE CLINTON YEARS.

Algorithm: A well-defined procedure to solve a problem.

Yup. Says it all, doesn't it. :-)

102. When are you folks going to figure it out? Gore will not run
against Hillary. Period. As long as she is in the race, he's not. Read the Vanity Fair article about the Clintons and Gore, it's an eye opener. I'll see if I can find a link.

112. Read it...
Don't believe you are correct. I think he side-stepped a direct answer. If anything, he may take Hillary as his running mate. But think about it... vice president... pre-Cheney... that office was a damn sight different than it is with Cheney.

115. I don't think that Hillary would settle for being Gore's running mate
I do think it would be a great, winning ticket though.

105. Al Has My Vote, And I Will Work Myself To The Bone For Him Too!
Wes Clark has endorsed Hillary, but I just can't go with that. Gore was always my second choice (after Clark) anyway, now he's definitely my top choice. Yes, we need him NOW!!!!!!

110. I wish, but I don't think so ....
Don't get me wrong. I love the man. I always have. I voted for him in the primary in 1988! But I don't think he'll run with Hillary's numbers as strong as the are. Frankly, he got screwed by the Clintons the first time, and as GWB says "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice .... won't get fooled again."

Now, that being said, I think that IF Hillary's campaign somehow implodes, I think that the media has some major crow to eat and would probably get behind him in a big way.
