So, they'll first curtail our civil rights and then campaign and say "but if only we get a real majority then we can change things." To which I respond BS! Democrats are called weak because they don't really stand for anything that hasn't already been defined by a REPUBLICAN. Be an OPPOSITION party, you know...OPPOSE what the ruling party believes!

Would the Republicans have given CLINTON such sweeping powers in the wake of the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995? I don't think so!!! One thing the Republicans are very good at and that is being an OPPOSITION party The Democrats would do well to look up the word, opposition, and begin living it. Then maybe they would not need to worry about a majority.

Will Hillary and Co say she first supported extending wiretap powers before opposing it and offer mea culpas?

To think these people want our votes. Know them by their ACTIONS.

WASHINGTON, Oct. 8 — Two months after insisting that they would roll back broad eavesdropping powers won by the Bush administration, Democrats in Congress appear ready to make concessions that could extend some crucial powers given to the National Security Agency .

A Democratic bill to be proposed on Tuesday in the House would maintain for several years the type of broad, blanket authority for N.S.A. eavesdropping that the administration secured in August for six months.

"Many members continue to fear that if they don't support whatever the president asks for, they'll be perceived as soft on terrorism," said William Banks, a professor who specializes in terrorism and national security law at Syracuse University and who has written extensively on federal wiretapping laws.

"There's a 'keep the majority' mentality, which is understandable," she said, "But we think they're putting themselves in more danger by not standing on principle."

2. Their whole being seems to now be geared to '08.

Don't tick off the republic base (as if they'd vote for a Democrat anyway). Don't piss off the mushy middle. Don't look "soft" on terrorism (which was a construct of the republics, anyway). And if they do all these things, they'll have a filibuster-proof majority.

The problem with their logic is that if they keep alienating their OWN base with their spinelessness, they're not going to have an '08 majority to WORRY about. Why would people vote for a faux-republican when they can vote for a REAL one?
