He surely knows of the draftgore folks, like myself. Why can't he make that shermanesque statement re: 2008 so many of us can move on. I know he doesn't owe anybody anything, but still...it would be nice.

3. i think you'll see him jump in
if it looks like clinton would be the nominee. he distanced himself from them in the 2000 election & he will look to unseat her before she sits down.

12. It will be decided very soon. If he doesn't announce within two weeks of Nobel Prize Award

Forget it.

The answer will soon be definite.

6. He has said he doesn't see the need to make a "Sherman statement"..
IIRC. Plus, I think he is enjoying the attention right now. No such thing as bad pub when you're pushing for a cause.

9. I was thinking about the Larry King interview...
unless he's said something different since then?

GORE: Of course it is. And I'm -- but here is my -- and you know my answer, that's the problem. Because I don't want to sound repetitive. I am not thinking about being a candidate. I have no plans to be a candidate. But, yes, it's true, I have not made a so- called Sherman statement and ruled it out for all time. I see no reason or necessity to do that.

But that's not an effort to be coy or to prop the door open or to invite such speculation. Look, I don't know why it's ordained that one -- that as soon as one presidential campaign is over with, the next one begins right away. I'm one of those who doesn't like to see the Christmas goods put into storage right after Halloween.

And I think the American people are not well-served by having an endless campaign. We are 500 days away from the next election. So why just sort of close up the field and say, OK, this is it. Place your bets. I don't have to play that game.

16. No he didn't
He stated he didn't feel he had to apologize for not getting into the political fray. And he's right.

7. Because he still has some power behind him.
Edited on Tue Oct-09-07 10:41 AM by Rhythm and Blue
While I think he won't run, it's in his interest to keep as many as possible in his "camp." That way, it increases the power his endorsement would carry--and in doing so, increases the small degree of leverage he can put on the candidates who are running.

Plus, as others have said, more attention on him is more attention for his cause. No issue spokesman would say, "Please, stop paying attention to me."

11. Because the Nobel committee highly frowns on giving awards to political candidates

Because by not getting into the race early, he has spared himself the constant attack of the media machine....

Because, he has had spotlight positive publicity for causes that are dearest to him, elevating his work & his chances of obtaining the nomination

Because, he learns from his mistakes, & he has been through the ringer once...

Because, he has been waiting to see his level of support before stepping into this madness again, he does not want to be a savior, he wants to be a leader, he needs to see the committment of the American people

I am not yet positive he will run, but I do think there is a real chance he will....& if that is his true intention, he has played this thing like a violin.

RUN AL RUN

14. And...
"Because by not getting into the race early, he has spared himself the constant attack of the media machine...."

And saved himself a ton of money while getting a ton of press.

15. Would people have gone to see his movie if he had? Would the soundbite media have cared?
And why does he have to make a "Sherman" statenment? Can't people simply tell where he is at by his actions?
