GAWD, Thompson again! I'm sure his economy is doing well with the tax cuts, lower taxes on dividends from the stock market...what about those 'other' Americans, Grandpa Fred!

Jeebus, I really thought I was done with him...it's like the Friday the 13th movies!

I'm sure for him the economy is just peachy. I'm sorry he was your Senator. What the hell is in the water in TN that a majority of the people who live there looked at him and said "Hell yeah!" I look at him and all I can think is he probably smells like pee.

44. It's not in the water, but rather in
the cultist churches, as I refer to them. The ones where the preacher says it, the congregation does it, and newspapers are the work of Satan, facts that go against what preacher says must then be run by preacher who makes up some bullshit and then feeds that to the congregant who is then scolded for questioning the flavor of the bullshit and the fact that the bullshit didn't shield the congregant from having questioning thoughts into the brain!

I made the bad mistake of quipping when a nut pulled out from a stop sign less than a block away from me on a highway with a speed limit of 50, that she thought she was covered from her stupidity by an 'invisible God shield', the boys were all over the car laughing, and they've not forgotten it and they use that phrase now. Yeah, :spank: myself.

60. Hi tnlefty! Earlier today I was watching "Zeitgeist"
Only got halfway thru before taking a nap, but I guess it's making a connection between the creation and exploitation of religion by the elite few to control the masses.

Mike talked about it a few weeks ago. Will finish viewing later tonight.

110. Hey exclamation point! I'm still lovin' your activism.
I watched most of zietgeist (I think in total I missed approx. 15 mins. 'cause someone around here is always wanting something!) and I was freakin' to say the least. I feel as though I've been living in a twisted version of '1984', 'The Handmaid's Tale' and the Twilight Zone for a few years now. Oh, and throw in "They Thought They Were Free" for some real fun!

My youngest had someone at school call him "the son of Satan" for questioning an undying allegiance to Dimson**. The oldest one put the car in neutral, set the brake and got out of the car asking, "What the hell did you just say, and did you just say what I think that you said. If you want to see the son of Satan look at the Oval Office."

Yeah!! Isn't school fun?

126. If I could have been assured of having kids like yours, I wouldn't be childless today.
Good for youngest and oldest! Team tnlefty...

Funny you should mention "The Handmaid's Tale". I was at the hospital today and they were having a book sale. I've been looking for a second-hand copy of THT for nearly a year. Yes, I could buy it for $13.95 for a paperback, which I refuse to do. I could also check it out from the libe - but I wouldn't read it without incurring $13.95 in fines because I am an idiot.

So I frequent library resale rooms, Goodwill, etc. and NEVER see a copy of that book. It's become a personal Holy Grail.

(Didn't find it today, either. But I will!!!)

BTW, "1984" is one of my two favorite books. The other is "The Once and Future King".

And I'm a huge Twilight Zone fan. All 3 versions of the series. (I'm old enough to have seen the original broadcasts of the Rod Serling version - and I still watch those marathons on the Sci-Fi channel).

129. Kind of funny story. A friend of my does the whole Netflix thing and we were discussing
what a great concept it is. I said, "Gee, wouldn't it be great if there were a Netflix-like thing for books." She said, "Paula, there is. It's called a library." smokey's kinda stupid sometimes.

138. I said something much dumber.
The libe near where I workED (grr) had a great little resale shop. I was telling my former (idiot) supervisor that I was walking over to the local library where they have a great selection of books. She looked at me oddly and said "What else do they have in libraries?"

I should have known then I was doomed.

145. This is gonna make me seem awful, but...
I've explained to my kids that I love them very much (they reply that they know), but if I had any idea that we would be where we are as a society of people, I wouldn't have had them. Wars, not caring about not only the people in this country, but other countries as well, and the outright hatefulness that the rwingers permeate our society with, just :puke:

They've seen documentaries about non violent resistance against oppressors, the labor movement, and the oldest is very familiar with Einstein, Howard Zinn, and others, and he fully understands that there is probably another labor movement coming soon, and that there will always be people who fall for the propagandistic traps of war and despising labor unions. In other words, understanding that the fights that went before, what he sees his parents trying to do locally, will be his and his brothers' fights as we've regressed so far so fast.

113. Well, it's rather sweet, but not as much as a white zin, but
I've learned that if I splash a little Pinot Griggio in it's better, or in reverse, if I get hold of a griggio or a chardonnay that bites too much, a splash of the white merlot takes the edge off!

Here ya go

Wines and liquors are also strange in TN! There are brands of both that may or may not be available in Nashville, Gatlinburg, Knoxville, etc., and some of those brands that are available there may not be available here. The splasher pinto grigio is Ecco Domani.

50. I was wine...er...grocery shopping today and I thought of you.
There was a tag on the shelf about an award-winning Riesling that scored a 91 and won a silver at the Cal State fair. It was Fetzer - not an over-priced brand. They were out of it, so I couldn't look at the label (that's how I imprint info on my wine-saturated brain pan).

See - you've expanded from Truthseeker World into Real Life!

I'm proud that I've finally moved on from White Zinfandel. I discovered that Reislings can be sweet only because a restaurant at which we were dining didn't sell White Zinfandel by the glass.

but they stock a large variety of wines at all prices. And each one has a description on the shelf. I usually decide what I'm in the mood to spend and then look around.

We're lucky out here because we're 40 minutes from Napa and have learned a lot from visiting the wineries over the past 25 years. Mmmmmmm.......

I don't know if Trader Joe's in NJ can sell wine. Liquor can't be sold in grocery stores in NJ, that includes wine and beer. I do have several liquor stores within walking distance and there's a huge liquor emporium (think "Leaving Las Vegas") that's a five minute drive from where we live.

117. Mr. smokey loves sports bars - he knows all the bars in the city where college football fans hang
out - not fans in general, mind you - but bars where alum from specific schools go to cheer for their teams. Does Mr. c like beer? Mr. smokey has become quite the beer connoisseur and knows where all the good beer joints are too.

He's pretty versatile and likes to try the local brews.

BTW - we were in O'Donohue's pub in Dublin around 10 years ago. If you've never been there, it's a singing pub and always mobbed - you couldn't fall down if you wanted to. So there are all these kids in their letter jackets who were there for an exhibition American football game. We bought a few rounds for a couple of the players. They wer from...

35. Randi's been pissing me off with how she talks about the Draft Gore site.
Mike's been pushing the Draft Gore petition for about six months now and Randi's acting like she's the first person to ever mention it. Then again, Randi would take credit for discovering gravity if she could.

70. I can't listen to her anymore. I'm not sure if it's that she's lost weight or
that she's rubbing elbows with celebs, but she's been absolutely insufferable lately. I used to LOVE her, but I really can't stand her anymore. And, I really wish she'd learn how to pronounce the words "subsidy" and "subsidize." She pronounces it subsTIdy or subsTIdize and it always reminds me of my not-so-bright cousin.

Guess who I'm listening to now. I'd rather be streaming on the internets and get me my Truthseekers than wait for the rebroadcast.

Haven't heard Randi in months, but I've been reading a lot of complaints. And she was never exactly Ms. Tact back in the day, either.

I've been following that thread. I'm glad I'm not it's not just me. I've actually started to write responses, but I just back-spaced rather than posted them (I'm really quite shy and don't feel comfortable posting oustide our thread, the Pets group and the Pro-choice group). When I hear Randi say that stuff about Keith, I shake my head. I wonder if she's just pissed off because he doesn't invite her on his show. Keith doesn't make his guests debate in a dungeon and everyone knows how Randi feels about that. I think she's just insulted that Rachel and Sam have been on, but she hasn't.

125. I feel more comfortable posting when I "know" the people I'm responding to.
I'm not comfortable with confrontation and I've found that even if there's a disagreement, it's easier to avoid anger when posting in an issue specific group. Although I don't agree with every truthseeker all the time, there's a respect that prevents disagreements from becoming nasty.

Mr. catnapper's been resting all day after minor surgery, and they have a nice warm body to curl up to. (His, not mine. I'm Nurse catnapper today - meaning when I ask him if I can get him anything that would make him feel better, he asks for a banana split. Men!!!)
