Progressive Talk Radio
Look at this list. Yeah, Ed Schultz tied O'Reilly, but look at the top people. Savage has that many listeners? Wow! (my impression of a Savage listener would be someone who,if they'd get away with it,would actually kill you for being liberal.

I took a drive from Indiana to the western Colorado last summer, the whole time looking for talk radio. In St. Louis I got Randy Rhodes. I couldn't wait for the return trip to get another progressive on that same station. I got Dennis Miller. There was no progressive talk my whole trip other than Randi. It was a long drive.

I guess my point is, the internet is great, you can stream and read, and XM and Sirus are okay for progressive radio, but what about people who are not yet, but might become fans of progressive radio? It's tough to get a message out when you have few stations, and of those stations, most are weak broadcasts.

We have a long way to go.

1. The radiowaves have been surreptitiously pwned
It's monopoly and we lose.

Fight back, listen to liberal radio and tell everyone else how to.

I've been listening/streaming KGO810 radio into my brain every evening/night/overnight/early morning for 20+ years. Bernie Ward and Ray Taliafero are like family to me.

2. Yes, but if you don't live close to a city there is no progressive radio.
I look for it. You have to pay for it or be by a computer.

3. true but speaking on behalf of the west coast
AM radio here is completely different after the sun has set and the "atmospheric bounce" sets in. I can tune in Alaska, Washington, Oregon, California, Hawaii and Mexico if they have a strong enough signal.. but only at night. Is there not that phenomenae where you live? I assume "atmospheric bounce" means everywhere. That's with a plain radio tuner. If you have Shortwave it's even cooler.

I realize it's all about accessibility and that is what it means to have the gonads of middle america. But... if you have wireless broadband like I do, you can listen to your laptop tuned in to progressive talk, day and night, any time. Most people, while commuting or at work, don't have that option, I know. It's the reason we need more representation across the public airwaves.

4. The sad truth is that
talk radio is just not a progressive medium...I'm not sure why but I suspect that many radio listeners prefer the right wing outrageous attacks and hyperbole.

6. It's all about lack of diversity among station ownership:
REPORT: The Right Wing Domination Of Talk Radio And How To End It

The Center for American Progress and Free Press today released the first-of-its-kind statistical analysis of the political make-up of talk radio in the United States. It confirms that talk radio, one of the most widely used media formats in America, is dominated almost exclusively by conservatives.

The new report — entitled “The Structural Imbalance of Political Talk Radio” — raises serious questions about whether the companies licensed to broadcast over the public radio airwaves are serving the listening needs of all Americans.

==

Our conclusion is that the gap between conservative and progressive talk radio is the result of multiple structural problems in the U.S. regulatory system, particularly the complete breakdown of the public trustee concept of broadcast, the elimination of clear public interest requirements for broadcasting, and the relaxation of ownership rules including the requirement of local participation in management. <…>

Ultimately, these results suggest that increasing ownership diversity, both in terms of the race/ethnicity and gender of owners, as well as the number of independent local owners, will lead to more diverse programming, more choices for listeners, and more owners who are responsive to their local communities and serve the public interest.
