Hi, JoMama49.
A little more than a week ago, Guy got whacked by a really nasty lightning strike that took out a bunch of his equipment. It took awhile to fix, but he's been back since Tuesday, 3 to 5 p.m., Eastern Time, live as ever on The Head-On Radio Network, (The H.O.R.N.), America's Liberal Voice. www.headonradionetwork.com
There have been some issues with his archives at www.whiterosesociety.org, but Ben Burch, the hardest working man in Liberal Talk, is working to correct them.
Thanks for listening!

I'd been wondering what had happened to Guy (and his daily calls from Juanita!)

2. I listened to him earlier this week when Randi |
|
became intolerable to me to the point of no return. He said something about being back from an extended leave but I didn't catch what it was about. I stream him on this link... http://www.theguyjamesshow.com/

3. Thanks for the replies -- I'm a talk radio junkie, and Guy is one |
|
of my absolute favorites! I'm always worried that he won't be able to fund his show. I send him $, as well as all the talk shows I love. I also like Bob Kincaid on The Horn, and I'm an avid listener of Nova M radio too. I'm glad he up and running again.

7. I hadn't heard of him until I read a post on DU |
|
saying to give him a listen if one wanted a break from Randi Rhodes on AAR. I live in northern Maine so if I want to listen to progressive radio, I have to stream it. There is absolutely nothing on the airwaves hear besides rightwing nutjobs, 80's rock, and country music. I've really gotten into Guy's show lately and will send him some $$ as soon as I have some available. He seems kind of mellow sometimes but when he gets cranked up on something, man does he let it fly!

4. I think I had an insight about Randi's current "stuck place" -- |
|
She is sniping at callers about not being involved enough in the political process (not voting, not contacting Congress...).
She is also sniping at callers about not being optimistic enough about the future.
So, why does she keep getting callers who are depressed and angry and critical about their fellow citizens - who are not optimistic about what is being done now and what will happen in future?
Because she, herself, constantly expresses pessimism - she is depressed and angry and critical about her callers.
Karma can be a bastard. Randi needs to realize that she is attracting callers with her own perspective -- if they are driving her nuts then she needs to change her own perspective.
Listening to the difference between callers to Thom and callers to Randi is like night & day. Thom gets some depressed, critical callers but he gets a lot of people who are participating - taking creative action.

6. Very interesting insight. |
|
I guess it's like a karma causality loop or something. Negative energy feeding negative calls feeding negative energy. I hadn't thought of it that way before.
I also agree with others who are saying she seems to be quite self focused lately. Her ego is part of what makes her good on the air because she takes no shit from anyone. However, she has been doing a far worse job balancing her ego with the reality that we the listeners used to listen to hear some cutting edge truth about important issues with a smattering of Randi Righteousness tossed in for shock effect. It's becoming all about Randi lately. I hope she reigns it soon because she used to be one of my favorites.

8. Yep. Winning "Female Talker of the Year" seems to have gone to her head... |
|
I also wonder whether she has become more self-absorbed as a result of feeling attacked -- she has been sued and threatened and personally attacked on air -- and, perhaps, that has caused her to become more defensive and her self-absorption is part of that defensiveness.
When I first started teaching I was so anxious that I couldn't cope well if students asked questions that indicated that they were confused about what I was saying because I wasn't being clear or if I flat out made a mistake in my lecture. I had a student who asked on an end of semester evaluation whether I actually saw individual students when I looked at the sea of 250 sitting in the classroom -- so I know I came off as self-absorbed and defensive. Now I am much more comfortable and appreciate it when students ask questions to let me know when I need to clarify something - much more positive interaction.
I'd like to see her in person - in a small group. I think she comes off quite differently when she travels to an affiliate and meets with a few dozen or a few hundred progressive supporters.
I think she really is a sweet woman -- beneath the snap and snark of her defensive shield.
I hope she comes out of this stage soon, too.
