Please, someone wiser than me,explain why the House Foreign Affairs Committee
has chosen now to focus its energies on resolution 106,instead of CURRENT genocide, that requires immediate intervention..
"Calling upon the President to ensure that the foreign policy of the United States reflects appropriate understanding and sensitivity concerning issues related to human rights, ethnic cleansing, and genocide documented in the United States record relating to the Armenian Genocide, and for other purposes."
http://www.miamiherald.com/news/nation/story/267568.html
By a 27-21 vote, closer than expected, the panel approved the resolution declaring that ''the Armenian genocide was conceived and carried out by the Ottoman Empire from 1915 to 1923.'' Upwards of 1.5 million Armenians died during the period, according to some estimates.

''Nations of the world have periods in their history that they can't overlook; we acknowledge and we confront them,'' said Rep. Jim Costa, D-Calif. ``My Armenian friends believe this was a genocide, and so do I.''

The nonbinding resolution further calls upon President Bush to use the word ''genocide'' when he issues his annual Armenian message next April. The president, though, will not do so, even if the full House of Representatives approves the resolution in coming weeks.

1. I am not smarter then you my friend
But, I don't think that Turkey should be too pissed. They can always retort to the US Congress "Hey! Where are your native Americans?"

2. We acknowledge our history.

We don't like to bring it up, but the government doesn't claim it didn't happen. Turkey, on the other hand, denies any such genocide occurred.

3. Well, I would like to see UN peacekeepers in Darfur, certainly.
Honestly, I have no idea why the Dems are pushing on this. It's true, yeah, but...why now?

4. The Turks are keeping the Kurds in line for king george and the wealthy corporations
who want a chaotic Iraq with a compliant Sunni or Sunni-Shia coalition "government"

It is the Kurds who are most likely to make the division of Iraq a reality on the ground before king george and his buddies can divvy all that northern Iraqi oil.
