Wonder if Jeri Thompson was in LOVE |
|
with Fred Thompson's money. A report from the Political Ticker says he makes about 3 to 26 million dollars from the residue of his ACTING?? character. And he has assets about 8 million.
But gee Jeri really loves him, if he didn't have all those scads of money, she would sit in a shack with him, cause it's true love.

what I was implying was that some women sell THEMSELVES like cattle for sex. Cant a girl make her own decisions? Perhaps some women are OK with being gold diggers. I don't blame them. Who wouldn't want to be rich? To imply that only men are responsible in the gold digger equation is as equally sexist as my original statement.

He said "the sex" wasn't worth the cost, as if he was purchasing rights to her body.
As if she was selling the rights to her body.

Raping your spouse is not okay - you have not bought rights to access her body. It's something most married couples willingly share with each other, but that's not the same as having bought and sold sex from each other. If you are thinking of women (or men) that way, that's sad.

36. Jesus, lighten UP! NO ONE is talking marital rape here-- |
|
just consensual nookie within marriage. When most couples marry, they sort of expect "access to the goods"--that's consummation, part of the marriage contract.

|
Edited on Thu Oct-11-07 02:10 PM by wienerdoggie
to consummate the marriage or withholding affection was cause for divorce. It's what (most) people in most cultures expect when they get married. Maybe not WHEN, HOW, etc.--but yes, hate to break it to you, people who get married expect sex from their spouses. Jesus, I can't believe I'm explaining this to an adult.

Hey, it may not be your personal thing, but there are people for whom age isn't a big deal, nor are they so shallow as to base their opinion on looks. I knew a wonderful man whose wife was thirty when they married. He had his first child a year later, when he was seventy. Oh, and he wasn't rich either.
I'm sick of people getting all worked up about this shit. It reminds me of kids at school, and is of about the same mentality. Grow up people, there are plenty of legitimate things to criticize Thompson on, however the age disparity of his marriage is not one of them.

You're promoting the myth that the only reason a younger person marries an older person is because of money. It is utter bullshit.
I was in a committed relationship for a number of years with a woman twenty years my senior, and she was by no means rich. However she was fun, vibrant, and a wonderful caring person.
You know, we whine and moan when others attack the personal lives of our candidates, yet jump in with both feet into a 'Pug's private life. Rather hypocritical, don'tcha think? Why not stick to attacking Thompson for his positions and policies, rather than spreading bullshit memes about his personal life. I know that there are a number of DUers out there who are in relationships with large age discrepancies, and whenever you post shit like "married him for his money", you're pretty much slamming every single one of those people.

43. In the first place, I would never say "I'd hit that" |
|
as a metaphor for sex.
Second, if I loved someone, it really wouldn't matter if they had wrinkles. That's not the thing that makes people attractive or not attractive.
I don't think you can say "ewww, gross, he has wrinkles" without kind of insulting everyone in that category, and giving away a bit of your own values ... just like you can't say ewww, gross, he's (insert race) without insulting everyone in that race, or ewww, gross, she's ________, without insulting everyone with those characteristics.
What you've basically stated is that older people can only be attractive to other people who are similarly "ewwww-worthy" - like that's all they qualify for, and they should know that.

but no more so than what was being said about the other women - people are saying they are whores too, that they've sold their bodies for sex. That's the point being made. If this post is deleted, which it probably should be, then so should the others, because they say the exact same thing.
There's a nasty double standard on DU where we think it's okay to be sexist pigs so long as we despise the target of our sexism. We only object to it if we are defending one of our own.
This is the Kramer version of "I'm not a racist. I only resort to racism when someone pisses me off." Well, that still makes you a racist. Ditto for sexism.

Personally, I couldn't care less why people choose the partners they do as long as they are aware of the responsibility that comes with a relationship and all adults are offered the chance to be married.
With all the shit we're contending with now, this kind of sexist gossip makes me ill.
Mr. B is several years my junior and we are always hearing catty comments. Funny thing is, we've outlasted all of the people who offer such commentary by far.
