question is: Why is HRC lower in the straw polls than in the national polls. Thinks it is national name recognition.

7. That is the likely reason |
|
Politics is like the stock market. You can do all the analyses you want and a kid will wind up picking the better performing stock/candidate because name recognition counts for more than anything else.

8. HRC has about 1/3 of the party as a solid base |
|
And the rest of the votes are split among all the rest of the candidates.
So what is the best way to have somebody other than HRC win?

12. We need to get the DNC to give our primaries Instant Runoff Voting. |
|
I don't know if all of the delegates would have to vote to make that change or what, but it sure would be nice (and, you know, Democratic) if we could rank our choices for the Dem nomination so that we could have a "consensus candidate." (I'm sure there's a better way of phrasing that.)
I wish we could have polls on DU that incorporated Instant Runoff Voting rules...I tried Googling for IRV web-widgets but came up empty. We could always do an official DU straw poll with Instant Runoff Voting rules and just compile the results manually. It would be a little time-consuming but I would gladly volunteer to do the legwork if we could get enough responses to make it worthwhile.

9. Not everyone has that ability |
|
Cuberats, dialups, and others simply can't do things the rest of us can. Thats why its annoying for some when someone just shouts Hey so and so is talking about something. Details. Everyone loves details.

13. Thanks. I just found out about this on another forum |
|
where I have been posting under the moniker buccaneer. Another DUer on that board told me about it. They didn't know I was a DUer until I mentioned it to someone else. kdpeters is the one who told me about it. And, damn, I missed it. Wonder if it's archived on the web somewhere.
I'm hoping this catches fire across the country. Trying to make that happen.
