The winners of the Nobel prize are announced in October (now). The actual presentation of the award takes place on Dec 10 in Sweden. Various locales are used for the individual awards but the award banquet is traditionally held in the Stockholm City Hall.
The announcement is presented as a general press release. A phone call is issued to the recipient prior to the announcement so they are made aware of it and are invited to the award ceremony.

Something many people often overlook. Also, the Economics prize is not a "real" Nobel Prize. It was set-up and is funded by a Swedish bank.
