Poll question: To Al Gore hold outs - if it is not to be Al, who would you vote for?
Believe me, I'd love it if Al Gore ran for President! Al is the ONLY candidate I'd trade my Kucininch vote for. Though I wonder if the day arrives when even the most optimistic Gore supporters concedes that it ain't gonna happen - what will they do?

Most prognosticators and even those in the http://www.draftgore.com movement have said if it is to happen, Al needs to make this decision by the end of October.

Could the Al Gore hold outs make a differnce in the polling landscape when they all begin to flock to their second choice? I'd like to think so, but here is another non-scientic poll to get a sense of things here on DU.

QUESTION: If or when a day arrives that you know Al is positively NOT going to run for president in 2008, would you support another Democrat running in the Primaries? If so, who would it be?

2. You will have to ask the Goricle....
Seriously, I wonder if there is a silver lining to things when/if folks sadly accept that Al will not run.

Is there an untapped and large group of voters that will fall behind another Dem (other than Hillary)? Will we see folks converging with another candidate who could challenge the MSM's assumption that HRC is the nominee? I'm looking for a best case scenario here. Of course, I say that as a Kucininch supporter and my bias is obvious.

peace~:)

4. I've been leaning toward Edwards, but Kucininch...
is sounding better and better all the time.

Why the end of October?

5. Why the end of October?
I've heard from a few sources that a few BIG state filing/application dead lines to get on the ballot or even challenge to get on through petition drives all are on or about the early part of November.

It is simply physics.

Though if anyone in the know has a better sense of this, please enlighten us.

Another really, REALLY distant possibility is even after the primaries, something yukky happens with the then Democratic front runner which would necessitate a brokered Convention. In other words, delegates who are committed to some one else, pick Gore.

10. The nominating convention has the final word, of course.
If the National Convention wished, they *COULD*
reach out to any Democrat and place them on the
ticket, regardless of what happened in all the
primaries; all it would take is some supermajority
willing to suspend the rules of the Convention.

Heck, they could even nominate me!

"Hailing the great State of New Hampshire,
home of both granite bedrock principles and
two great *DEMOCRATIC* United States Con-
gressional Representatives, the next President
of these United States..."

13. Well... I really don't fit any of those.
Nobody is on my list, but Gore wasn't my only choice.

I'd have gone with Clark or Feingold, too.
