Memo to Congress: First Take the Genocidal Beam Out of Thine Own Eye"
Edited on Thu Oct-11-07 03:11 PM by David Zephyr
The entire world is sick and tired of the U.S. wagging its judgmental and hypocritical finger at other nations and the current "bill" in Congress condemning Turkey's atrocities against the Armenians is just one more example of our nation being the doctor who won't take our own medicine.

When will we, as a nation, stop being a meddling busy-body and lecturing the rest of the world about how they should live and govern their own lives?

And when will we first deal with our own genocidal history? How do we ignore Darfur and preach to Turkey?

Where's a bill in Congress that condemns the United States government for the genocide against Native Americans and where's the companion bill that offers to financially repair their generational loss?

Where's a bill in Congress that condemns the genocide through slavery of African-Americans which was sanctioned and supported by the U.S. government and where is a reparations bill to repay their generational loss?

Where's the bill in Congress that condemns the atomic holocaust against the Japanese in WWII which still leaves us the only nation on earth to have pulled that evil trigger...especially when the Japanese were seeking a way to surrender already to save face? Where's our indignation about that?

Yes, there was a genocide against the Armenians, but the United States is no longer in any position to lecture any nation on earth about historical wrongs until we clean up our own act and deal with our own historically documented genocides.

We dropped more bombs on the tiny peninsula of Vietnam in our illegal war there than we did in all of World War II. Our actions in Vietnam led to the direct deaths of over 3 million human beings. Where is the bill condemning that?

Our faux sanctimonious preaching to the world is now transforming our country from being the dangerous bully in the world's eyes to the boring, dangerous bully.

The nation that drones to its people that it was "built on Christian creeds" (which is wasn't), needs to listen to the words of Jesus himself from his Sermon on the Mount:

"Judge not, that ye be not judged.

"For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again."

"And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?

"Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye."

And lastly, before I am flamed out of some knee-jerk and misplaced sense of patriotic reaction, I am sickened by what happened to the Armenians, just as I am by what we have done in Iraq now, and by what the Soviets did in Afghanistan and on and on.

But, Americans are in no position to lecture about genocide to the rest of the world until we deal with our own involvement with genocide...like the one we have created in Iraq today.

1. I say we close the Holocaust Museum in D.C.
Wouldn't want to look hypocritical.
