Since we're on about "I Remember DU When..."
This is what I remember best.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/cgi-bin/duforum/duboard.cgi?az=show_thread&om=25050&forum=DCForumID35&archive=

Because that was us at our best. Remember 2002? It was awful, but that was when we really started to get moving.

That action was replicated all across the country by DUers everywhere.

That was when being afraid ended for a lot of people.

That was the best moment of DU I can remember.

People wonder if this place has changed. Ask yourself this:

Could we do something here like that again?

Was that "radical"?

It was just excellent.

Since we're remembering DU.

4. Back when I was "radical"
for speaking out in public and writing books saying there were no WMD in Iraq.

"Radical" used to be...well...productive.

3. Makes me want to weep to see how far we have retreated...or
lost ground or whatever it is that has happened since 2002. Well, one difference between now and then is that 2002 wasn't a presidential election year.

I will say this again to EVERYBODY here at DU: WE ARE ALL THAT WE'VE GOT!!! We need to find a way to stay together on the really important things.

12. Matt, I had no idea what I was getting into when I went to that bar.
And folks there did seem uneasy and uncomfortable. How funny to think of that now! How so many things have changed in that short period of time. Many good changes, personally, some not so good, politically. If you had told me back in 2003 or 2004 that I would still be tabling against this war I would have told you that you were nuts! I thought we would be on to other things. On a personal note, you are a part of my life and of my larger family. I read with interest what is happening to you. It is very nice!

and I have read with great interest your adventures as well. your place sounds like a slice of heaven (as I would probably imagine it).

We are doing well. Could always be better but life is pretty darned good these days. :hi:

You are a part of my life as well. A HUGE part of my fondest memories. Your son is a DEAR friend. Keep me up to date on your wonderful adventures up there.

Oh, man, Will--talk about a blast from the past! Some of the names in that thread have been MIA (or gone) for too long. What memories you bring up!

Love to you!

just how are all of these people posting on that site?

It took me two more years and a new girlfriend to figure it out.

7. The best time I remember is (at Halloween-2005)..We all came as Freepers.
There were Glorious stories and accounts of our Beloved President and How much everybody Worshiped Him...

Female Poster:"When He was on that Large Ship with "Mission Accomplished" behind him, I...I ...Couldn't help but stare at the Magnificent "Bulge" in his uniform...I almost fainted out of love and respect.

It was weird and Fun...

9. They've pulled a lot of shit, but we've learned a hell of a lot.
It works both ways. That's what it's about isn't it? You were informing.

Well we don't have the media, but the information is there. And it cannot be suppressed forever.

I'm trying to look at the productive side. That's what you were doing. Being the media.

Hard to believe it has been that long. I had a different username back then. Had to change it when I started getting stalked online by a bunch of freaks from freakrepublic. Just logged into it and re-read some old messages from Khephra.

14. that was way before my time, but I still recognize a few names
yours, matcom, DS1, Papau, Jackpine Radical, Kentuck, Tahiti Nut, Oregonian, the late Nostamj

Sounds like a neat idea. I have long suggested that we should gather some of our on-line writers and put out a national newspaper. A USA Tommorrow that people could read during their lunch breaks or while riding on the subway.

you said that "everyone here Could just Kiss your ASS". Being new I asked if it was to be done by seniority or alphabetically.

18. Awesome
I truly wish I was here then but I'm glad I made it here for the '04 fun and games.

My best time was the night at the People's Republic. Good people and good beer.

Thanks for the archive Will.
