The Democratic Underground is what America is all about. I lasted on Free Republic for three days before they found out I was a DU loyalist. I said nothing negative about their group. I just championed the words of hope and I think they prefer the words of hate.

We're more tolerant of people who disagree (in some aspects anyway), but loads of people get posts deleted or accounts banned. So don't kid yourself.

DU welcomes most Democrats. Republicans are not welcome. Centrists are not welcome. Democrats who piss off the wrong people here are not welcome.

As has been said before, this is not a democracy, this is Skinner's website.

You have over a thousand posts. Skinner must be pretty tolerant of you. After all you insult him and yet you still have posting privileges. Sounds like Skinner promotes the freedom of speech.

I love DU, but "we" don't accept everyone. In fact, DU readily tombstones friendlies for stepping out of the party line. Donor status and post counts are factors, sure, but hey...this is a BUSINESS for Skinner and Elad. Just because one is given a forum doesn't mean they're free to spout anything they want.

I posted on "the site that shall not be named" a while back, and they kept telling me how privileged I was to be posting there, where they accept free thought and different ideas. Unless I expressed any free thought or different ideas, of course.

They didn't tombstone as readily as DU does, but for good reason...they have so few members. There's a core group of about 35 people that post there. Half of them are angry bitter vets (USA4ME), 1/4 of them are foreigners (Sonnabend), and the rest are just ignorant, stupid short-bussers (DemonicUnderwear), and they just post the same things day after day..."Huh, look at them DUmmmies! They sure is DUmb!" Never any free thought, never an actual in-depth discussion on any issue. They live to berate DU posters, and as such, they can't really tombstone people (except for people like me) because there isn't anyone to replace them.

They finally got rid of me by accusing me of being a child molester, in an otherwise totally unrelated thread. A mod posted it, and claimed he had it "on authority" that it was true. When I challenged him, my post was deleted. When I challenged again, my post was deleted again. So I posted my challenge in every category I could find and THAT's how they tombstoned me...for "spamming the forums."

It's all very GOP-like, as you might expect. In subsequent posts (the mod himself was actually tombstoned just days later for being a dick and arbitrarily tombstoning people) the mods told the board that I was ts'd for spamming.

So what's worse? A site that says "Hey, these are our rules; read them and follow them." Or a site that says "Rules? What rules? We love everybody!" but then goes out of their way to make sure you don't actually stay?

At least DU's honest about it.

You're quite the celebrity over there. A bit of a marvel. They do love it when their muse shows up for a clusterf*ck of abuse.

The rules of the road in the Outer Rings of Purgatory (thou shalt not mention it by name):
  1. Everyone is "welcome", as in welcome to be abused if you don't march in step.
  2. Threads will be deleted if they upset the tribe.
  3. The angry ones will begin and end every post with insults laced with foul language, and then call you a pussy if you ask them to address the issues.
  4. If they cannot find your Achilles heel, they will manufacture one. If that doesn't work, and you remain belligerent, you will be banned.
  5. The tribe, on average, is fairly intelligent, but they don't work that muscle very often.
  6. The real smart ones calmly instigate the rabble into fits of fury, and then innocently claim, "Who? Me?" when confronted.
  7. They love to pound on DU, but they are everything they despise in DU.
  8. They do loves their nicknames. Right, Pedro? Or was that Fat Che. It's so hard to keep it all straight.

Universal truism about the blindness of human nature: Negative attributions about others are ascribed to their permanent personal flaws/liabilities/sins. Negative attributions about one's self are ascribed to temporary situations.

28. Uh, supposedly DU doesn't welcome EVERYBODY:
Why don't you let conservatives post?

Democratic Underground is not intended to provide a soap-box for our political opponents. If we let conservatives post here, then this discussion forum would be identical to all the other discussion forums on the Internet. If you want to debate conservatives, there are thousands of other websites on the Internet where you can do so -- just not this one.
By the way... There are lots of conservative discussion forums that don't permit liberals to post, including this one.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/forums/faq.html#conservatives

I know it seems, after reading a lot of the posts here, that DU does, indeed, welcome conservatives, but the rules state it definitely does not.

Maybe they use a different set of criteria... I dunno. But, no, DU does not welcome everyone.

Just saying.

TC

31. the hell we do...
We don't allow everyone in. This is a place for Democrats, liberals, and progressives to talk to Democrats, liberals, and progressives. This was never intended to be an all-inclusive forum -- and why should it be?

It's like Landover Baptist's Judy O'Christian says: If you are saved, you are welcome; if you're not, please leave now!

This is a place for us, Renwiick. It's not a place for persons of the political right.
