Gore says climate change "not a political issue"
Edited on Fri Oct-12-07 05:35 AM by cal04
Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore said he was honored to share the Nobel Peace Prize with the U.N. climate panel on Friday for their work on global warming and said climate change is a moral, not a political, issue.

"We face a true planetary emergency. The climate crisis is not a political issue, it is a moral and spiritual challenge to all of humanity. It is also our greatest opportunity to lift global consciousness to a higher level," he said in a statement.

"I am deeply honored to receive the Nobel Peace Prize," he said.

"This award is even more meaningful because I have the honor of sharing it with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change -- the world's preeminent scientific body devoted to improving our understanding of the climate crisis -- a group whose members have worked tirelessly and selflessly for many years."

(snip)
"My wife, Tipper, and I will donate 100 percent of the proceeds of the award to the Alliance for Climate Protection, a bipartisan non-profit organization that is devoted to changing public opinion in the U.S. and around the world about the urgency of solving the climate crisis."

1. Al Gore is doing great!

I can see it's now unlikely that Al Gore will decide to enter the primaries and seek the Democratic nomination for 2008. Still - there is always the "deadlocked Convention" scenario! ;-)

I guess right now Al Gore is busy working on his next book "The Path To Survival" - due in April 2008.

Al Gore won't actually be presented with his Nobel Prize until December 10th.

By then a lot of States' filing deadlines will already have passed.

2. While it's not, it is.
Just look at the wingnut reaction. Their god, the corporations have been challenged.

3. Maybe he has moved to being a stateman and not just into
political stuff. Carter seems to be a stateman also. Some men seem to leave the party stuff behind and move on with their thinking. Maybe stateman is not the word I need. Can any one help me on just what the word would be? Men who care for the world and not just a political party line?

4. We all know he knows better.
Once the environmental refugees start flooding our shores, it's going to be a HUGE political issue.

Bet those people won't be "conservative" repukes, either.

5. And the Alliance's #1 recommendation? "vote for leaders who commit to action on global warming"
Taking Action on the Pledge

So if Gore himself doesn't run, I'm waiting to hear who he'll endorse. RFKJr. is backing Clinton; I'd be surprised to see Gore follow suit.
