Scandalous photos. Who's caught up in it? Pat Robertson.
Regent University officials have threatened to discipline a law student for posting on his Facebook page an unflattering photo of Regent President Pat Robertson.

The student, Adam M. Key, defended his action as constitutionally protected free speech in a 14-page legal brief he presented to the dean of the law school.

Regent officials gave Key two choices: publicly apologize for posting the picture and refrain from commenting about the matter in a “public medium,” or write a brief defending the posting. He faces punishment that could include expulsion.

Key, a second-year law student, said he refused to apologize and “be muzzled” by the university, so he composed the document, which includes citations from noted First Amendment cases.

The picture, posted on Key’s Facebook social-networking Web page, shows Robertson making what appears to be an obscene hand gesture. Key copied it from a YouTube video in which Robertson scratches his face with the middle finger of his right hand. The video is edited to freeze the frame in that position for several seconds. The YouTube version has had more than 2,300 page views.

1. Flipping the bird is scandalous, now? That said, this kid probably WANTS to switch law schools.
This vigorous defense of his actions just might intrigue another admissions department.

I mean, really--who would WANT a degree from REGENT? It's where all the nitwits from the Gonzales crew were misundereducated....

This kid does not look like a classmate of Monica Goodling, either!

In the brief Key submitted to Brauch, he argued that a provision of the bar association ’s standards allows universities it accredits to enact religious policies regarding students and employees “only to the extent that these policies are protected by the United States Constitution.”

Key apparently would be unlikely to win such a legal argument in court. Wasserman said the American Bar Association’s rules are used to govern its member institutions and would not protect a student’s constitutional rights. Also, the bar association does not specifically address students’ free-speech rights when considering law school accreditation, said Nancy Slonim, the organization’s deputy director of policy communications.

Nevertheless, Key said he felt compelled to take a stand on the larger issue of free expression, like some of the men whose images are tattooed on his back and arms did.

“A lot of people at Regent are afraid to speak out,” he said. “They’re fearful of criticizing Pat. They know that if they did, they’d be gone.

“At the point in time where we become afraid, we start losing the things that make us Americans.”

2. He's obviously confused Regent University with a school of higher learning...
and failed to see it as the Indoctrination Center and Diploma Mill that it is.

3. Or . . .
He's part of a new "charm" offensive from Regent, a sort of "See? We're not all against your progressive values" sacrificial lamb.

And if the vid of the Drawling Dipshit was already up on Youtube, where is the issue here?

Regent suspends student pending psychiatric evaluation

By BILL BURKE, The Virginian-Pilot

VIRGINIA BEACH

A Regent University law student who posted an unflattering photo of Regent President Pat Robertson on his Facebook page has been indefinitely suspended pending a psychiatric evaluation.

Adam M. Key was told by a dean in an e-mail Friday that he was concerned about Key's "emotional well-being" and that several students have recently expressed concern about Key's "interpersonal behavior."

The students "have reported, among other things, that you said that you brought a gun on campus, which is a violation of University policy," said the e-mail, signed by L.O. Natt Gantt, the law school's associate dean for student affairs.

Gantt said Key was being suspended until he could be evaluated by a university-approved mental health provider.

"Given the security situations that school campuses face today," Gantt wrote, "the University must pursue a course of action that diligently responds to these concerns."

Key said he has never brought a gun on campus or told fellow students that he had. "I've never owned or carried a gun," he said.

He said he was notified of the university's action Friday during a conference call with Gantt and an assistant dean. He said neither gave specific details of their conversations with other students.

"This is an effort to discredit me by drawing attention draw away from" the free-speech issue, Key said Friday. "It's insulting to imply that someone who has different opinions from the university is emotionally unstable."
