Blackwater keeps its eye on a tiny East County enclave.

Blackwater USA Vice President Brian Bonfiglio flashed a self-satisfied smile, gazing east across Round Potrero Road where, on Sunday, more than 200 Potrero residents and antiwar activists streamed onto an adjacent parcel of land. They had come-some from as far as Ventura-to protest the 824-acre paramilitary training facility the company hopes to open a mile down the snaky dirt road.

"I don't think the war profiteering signs are appropriate, quite frankly," Bonfiglio said. "At the end of the day, this will be determined as a land-use project by the Board of Supervisors."

1. They don't like to be called mercenaries, either.

3. Unfortunately, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors is pretty corrupt.
In my opinion anyway. I have seen Supervisor Diane Jacob lunching at the restaurant at Lake Cuyamaca with men in suits - that always spells disaster for the public in my opinion. She saw me looking at her and gave me a nervous smile. These secret little deals go on all the time - I wouldn't be surprised if all the Supervisors have had private little meetings like that with Blackwater. Sorry to be so cynical about it, but San Diego is notoriously corrupt.

4. I'm sorry to hear that. At some point -- last week? --
there was a report that BW was putting new projects on hold. I was hoping that meant, all new projects, including the one in Potrero. :(

2. I sure hope they don't get it. It's in Filner's district and he's against it.

I haven't been to the actual site (pictured above), but I've driven through that area before and it's peaceful and relatively unspoiled. I would really hate to see all that destroyed by Blackwater.

New submachine gun could shake up the firearms world

guess where the company, TDI (Transformational Defense Industries Inc.), bringing this sweeping progress to America, tests their weapons?

"At a Thursday demonstration for media at a Blackwater USA firing range in Moyock, officials said their system improves accuracy and reduces user fatigue. The submachine gun can be fired with one hand and remain on target."

"TDI has worked with the Army and special operations forces to develop the technology. It uses Blackwater's facilities to field test the weapons."
