Beware the media encouraging you to blame Hillary if Al chooses not to run |
|
I've seen a few articles with this slant already. Make no mistake--if Gore wanted to run, he would be very competitive. Beyond this, assuming Gore is easily pushed around by Washington common "wisdom" belittles both Gore and the people who make the assumption. While I'm no fan of Hillary, we shouldn't allow the media to form us into a circular firing squad with so much unfounded speculation. If you're going to blame someone if Gore decides not to run, start with the very people pushing this line of "Hillary too powerful, stamped out Gore run!" The media behavior in 2000 is probably the biggest reason Gore would not wish to run. I doubt Hillary's early popularity has as much to do with it, as such hasn't stopped Gore in the past.

The articles I've seen are basically saying that he's not running because he can't fight the "Clinton machine".

7. And I think until we hear from an actual source, it's best to view those statements appropriately |

5. My sense, from DU, is that the Gore-lust is a subconscious "take that!" swipe |
|
at Hillary, and a rejection of her. I am neither a Gore nor Hillary fan, so I say that as a neutral bystander.

9. Goes without saying supporters/detractors pretend to believe "facts" they view as useful |

Hillary supporter: "See? Hillary is unstoppable!"
Hillary detractor: "See? Hillary stopped Gore from running!"
In either case, I don't think the statement is really believed by the person making it. But when people are obsessed with bashing or promoting a candidate, they selectively believe all sorts of things while disbelieving others.
