8. It's a no-brainer, yep. What's interesting is that the machine seems to run on it's own now.

It's always been Pavlovian in it's functioning; fake outrage goes out, GOP votes come in.

But nowadays it seems Pavlovian in it's management as well. Any story that differs from the official GOP line in any way is met with smears and attacks, without any regard to how those attacks look to regular people.

It's like there's no one at the controls of the machine saying, "ok, let's not smear the 12 year old accident victim". There's no one really setting the outrage agenda from the top down, as was the case in the early-mid 90's. Nowadays it just seems to be kneejerk hatred from various lunatic right-wing sources, and the machine picks it up and regurgitates it, defends the attackers, etc. Without thought.

Why would any conservative want a Peace Prize and why would they care who got it? Peace is not a conservative value. They are just pissed because President Gore has another brilliant bullet to put on his resume (as if he needs it) and limbaugh does too, he will go down in history with the weight of his resume which now will includes "phoney soldiers." What a guy he is.
