McCain: Gore shouldn't have won Nobel Prize
Very sour grapes, Mr. "Maverick"!

Republican Presidential Candidate John McCain said the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize, announced today, should have gone to someone else other than former Vice President Al Gore.

"I would have liked to see that prize go to the Buddhist monks who are suffering and dying in Burma," McCain said after a speech this morning in Davenport.

Gore and the United Nation's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change won the award for their efforts to spread awareness of global warming and lay the foundations for counteracting it. Gore's environmental film, "An Inconvenient Truth," won an Academy Award earlier this year.

McCain, an Arizona senator, said he hoped Gore would now support nuclear power and a cap and trade proposal made by McCain and Sen. Joseph Lieberman to mandate that all sections of the U.S. economy reduce greenhouse gasses through a market-based system of trading emissions.

Given that he thinks it's such an important issue and all?

22. It needs further study,, there are two opinions on what is happing there
On saying it is man made and the other stating that it is part of a natural cycle.

71. And the ones who are saying it is part of a natural cycle are dead wrong...
The science is very clear on this issue, there are hundreds of peer-reviewed scientific articles supporting the theory of global warming, and none that discredit it.

36. I don't defend him where he's indefensible--of course he's a pandering
sellout. But he was vocal against torture, tried to curtail it with legislation (even if it didn't work out), and said publicly that Gitmo should be closed. I will give him credit for that. Not for much else, and certainly not for being a jerk about Gore's win.

A bill to authorize trial by military commission for violations of the law of war, and for other purposes.

McCain (R-AZ), Yea

So as I say about the Dems when they let bad bills slide through, "The words are nice, but at the end of the day, it's about the results."

First of all, Aung San Suu Kyi DID win the Nobel Peace Prize (although not a monk)- and the recent protests in Myanmar are too recent to be within the purview of the nominating process.

Seems like every time that guy flaps his lips, something more inane comes out.

52. Mccain can't or doesn't want to see the big picture.
Should humankind go along our merry way disregarding the looming catastrophe of global warming climate change, we will have wars that will dwarf World War 2 and Al Gore has done more than any other single political leader, including Mccain in warning the people of this grave threat to our species. I wonder what Mccain believes will happen when the glaciers melt and the rivers dry up?

As for me, they should invent a new award for such a feat and give it to Al Gore, the Nobel Peace Prize doesn't do it justice. I'm not slamming the Nobel Peace Prize, but they don't have a category for saving all human life.

Whatever gifts you once possessed have long since been squandered.

Whatever perspective you might once have contributed has long since been lost.

From "maverick" to meaningless, all in the cause of cheap party politics. Swallow enough of your pride, and eventually it turns toxic and kills you.
