Reason #1: It’s the New Economy, Stupid.America is dependent on Oil Imperialism: It supplies the oil on which we run this economy, such as it is. It props up our currency. But the oil is running out, the oil is overheating the planet, and OPEC is retreating from its ‘Dollars as the only transactional currency’ position. The time is long overdue for pursuing a Manhattan Project like push for alternatives. Al Gore is the only candidate I hear pushing these things and that I trust would actually pursue this with the vigor required.
Reason #2: Al Opposed the IWR vote BEFORE the vote.Al was on the correct side of this thing from DAY ONE i.e. PRIOR to the IWR vote. That counts for a great deal in my book. Read his speech from September 23, 2002:
http://www.commonwealthclub.org/archive/02/02-09gore-speech.htmlWhile others are saying, "Had I known then what I know now" or "Bush/Cheney lied to me, so my bad decision has to be excused", Al got it right.
Reason #3: Al has the brains to be President in a technological world. When you read a position paper from Al Gore, you know it actually comes from Al Gore. He reads. He thinks. He talks to the experts in their own terms, and when they’re not clear, he demands they explain things to him. I am sick and tired of hearing speeches written by a committee, vetted in front of focus groups, disguising policies that the experts think we’re too stupid to understand.
There’s more, and then there are reservations. Why did he let Donna Brazile lead his 2000 campaign? Why hasn’t he come out strongly on the voting machine issue? But, all-in-all, there's far more going for the guy than against him in my book.
