Why should Al Gore want to run for President, again? |
|
Look, seven years ago, WE allowed the neocons and the Supreme Court to rob Al Gore of his right to occupy the White House.
Seven years ago, this country was in the midst of a prosperous economy, unrivaled popularity and goodstanding throughout the world and a much more peaceful existence. But we kept relatively quiet while we allowed this man to be victimized by the repukes.
And now? We want Al Gore to come in, spend all 8 years of his presidency cleaning up the neocon mess (that * will leave behind) - a mess that would never have been made if we hadn't left Al Gore twisting in the breeze after those dubious election results in 2000.
Ask yourself this: Would you prefer to step in and take over a job where everything was pretty much squared away (as was in the case of Gore coming into the presidency after Clinton) OR would you settle for stepping in to take over a job in which your commonsense-challenged predecessor had done a half-assed job and left everything in a mess for YOU.
Al Gore has already run for President - and he already won! But, we let him down in 2000 by standing around and watching the repukes mug him. Why should he trust us and put himself and his family through another hellish campaign?
If he doesn't run for President (and quite frankly, I hope he doesn't) I can't say that I blame him.

1. I cannot understand why ANYONE would want to be the next President. |
|
Wouldn't that be kind of like adopting a rabid dog?

2. As far as climate change and awareness goes... |
|
He could have the biggest impact if he was President of the U.S.

7. I think he'd make the biggest impact........ |
|
if he could keep making a full commitment to climate change issues without having to split his time running the country.
Also, if he's not President, he wouldn't have to worry about having divided loyalties between national issues and environmental issues.

3. I wouldn't blame him one bit. He's now doing what past presidents |
|
do and is getting rave reviews. Why mess that up with a presidency, especially when he already won one and was robbed? Plus the toll it must take is ridiculous, especially for anyone following this admin.

4. Good point. He did win already and was not allowed to |
|
take office, so why would he think anything has changed? The Repubs still control the supreme court. But I do believe that if he doesn't run and win and somehow get to take office, the country will be the poorer for it.

5. I disagree with one thing in your post. |
|
WE did not allow the neocons and the Supreme Court to defeat Al Gore. WE did our jobs -- we voted for the man. Now when he went to court, had he asked for a recount of the entire state of Florida, rather than just a few counties, things might have turned out in his favor. He was ill-advised, but that wasn't the fault of the American people, who actually elected the man.

6. He should run for a several reasons. One he should assume the |
|
presidency that was stolen from him. His presidency would go far to restoring the our constitutional democracy. He would also raise the caliber of discussion in the election - I don' t think he is would play the media horse race game and the gotcha game with them anymore. And lastly, he can do more to address all the issues that face civilization as president rather than as a private citizen. I personally don't think any of the other candidates has the stature or the vision to lead either the US or the world in the direction we have to go if we are going to survive. The world can't wait, Al Gore in '08!

12. Because the people driving the automobile Earth are drunk, |
|
this is a direct result from the corporate media's insistence that we choose a person for the most powerful job in the land with the ability to launce nuclear war based on whether we would like to drink a beer with them. Of course they didn't bother to tell the American People that Bush is tied to a keg intravenously. The party after the selection became so outrageous that many in the Congress and the corporate media took to wearing togas and began smashing beer cans on their fore heads, that's how we ended up in a war with Iraq based on lies, that's why global warming was ignored in spite of overwhelming scientific evidence, that's why the dollar is melting as the Wicked Witch of the West under a cold shower, and that's why the Constitution is being turned in to toilet paper by the drunks that need to wipe their faces after hugging the toilet god.
Now Al Gore has a choice, work from the outside and pray someone responsible and trustworthy grabs the steering wheel and takes us home safely or grab the wheel him self, thus taking more risk with the opportunity of having control of the vehicle.
Mess has nothing to do with Al Gore's motivation for being President, the stakes are too high.
