Need Help from DUers. Local radio ran two hours of guy pushing Intelligent Design movie

Please Contact Jim Villanucci, (link below) let him know that the guy who was on today "Mark Mathis" was full of crap and ask Jim to do a show with Mainstream scientists to balance out the two hours of crap that was on today. I believe Jim is actually more on our side so a number of angry letters will certainly make and impact.

Thanks to anyone who writes a short letter to Jim! Believe me it will make a difference! :hi:

Here is where you email Jim Villanucci: jim@770kkob.com

You can also contact the local radio show manager here:

1. I am incapable of pretending I'm from Albuquerque
Now if he were in Des Moines we could talk.

2. You don't need to say where you are from
Just don't say you are from out of state.

3. Oh boy... more faux science being peddled as marketing
As Creationism can't make it in the scientific world they decided to take it to the public. Because as everyone knows science always get sorted out by the general public.

In the making of this movie the producers approached a number of scientists under false pretenses and interviewed them. They were never told that this movie was going to be the end result. So there we have the fundamentalists bearing false witness. Violating one of their own commandments. Yay.

4. So you want bogus 'listeners' to write in and complain about bogus science?
Does that seem weird & dishonest to anyone else but me?

5. So you are cool with 2 hours of ID propaganda not going answered?
All we are asking for is equal time.

7. Not cool with it but not willing to pretend to be local to bitch about it either
You cool with lying?

Get LOCALS to call and write. Asking people to lie and pretend to have heard something to complain about it? :wtf:

Didn't hear it. Won't lie for you just because I don't like the science. Bogus is bogus and what you are asking people to do is MAJOR bogus. Rush would just love to use this. Why try to set DU up to be discredited?

9. You don't have to pretend to be local

The show extends into several states. No one has to say where they are from, however if you say you are from Ohio then the message will hold less weight.

I think it is FAR more important to get equal time on a subject that can impact the opinions of tens of thousands of people than to worry about what you are worrying about. A radio station is public domain and the information they put out to the public will likely be spread to other states. Being clever and using resources to ask for equal time on this subject is just common sense.

Just because you are from another state doesn't mean you can't write this radio station. What if I had posted the info here and people had decided to write the radio station on their own? If it makes you feel better then just tell Jim you are from another state and you heard about this. You can do that but it will have less impact on getting Jim to put on an opposing opinion.

15. I agree, that was wrong.
Edited on Fri Oct-12-07 09:26 PM by Quixote1818
I didn't mean for it to come out that way. I was just worried people would say they were from NY or Cleveland and Jim would know someone posted this on a national website and the complaints be thrown out.

I drove for two hours today listening to this and my blood was boiling that this guy was going unanswered. He clearly was spreading lies and trying to turn people against the evil "atheist scientists". I just had to do something about it and felt DU was the best place to get a few people to write and ask for equal time. I should have worded the request better.

11. Not to worry. I'm a local and I responded.
This is serious stuff--if you could hear this, you'd be floored.

Your point, however, is well taken! :hi:

16. You can't get fully into the Land of Enchantment until you've

lived here for a couple of years. (At least that was my experience.) If you come here from a "little Switzerland" sort of other Rocky Mountain place, it's an environmental and cultural shock at first. (I came here from central to northern Colorado.) But the beauty of it is incredible. You have to work to find water, but there's water here to find--just not much of it, and this is not like Phoenix or L.A. in that it actually knows it's a desert. New Mexico conserves water.

I'm in the groove in NM now...there's an irrigation ditch on the other side of my back fence, and my back yard is flooded with water from time to time! I feel...oh, at home here now. ;-)

I agree with you about playing it straight.

6. I am so sick of Jim.
I live in ABQ, and the guy uses sources that are so over the top I can't believe it. I've only heard him during weird times when I've been flipping around on the radio during my awful commute.

The last time I heard him he was quoting a source from World Nut Daily. I kid you not.

Sometimes he can be funny, no doubt. And he doesn't seem to support Bush at this juncture, though I'm guessing he did at some point.

But media are media, and you can't trust these guys--they'll say anything to make a buck, really.

I would urge people to mail the program director, who is probably at least somewhat in charge of program content.

8. He constantly uses Drudge for topics
Then two days later the topic turns out to be Bull Shit but Jim never apologizes for it. You basically pegged Jim. I think half the time he is just saying what the Rush Limbaugh/Hannity listening audience wants to hear even though he doesn't personally believe it. I think when he came out too strong against the war too many people complained about him so he toned it down probably because of pressure from management.

10. None of these radio personalities believes anything. It's not about ideology;
it's about making ratings and money! I studied media on the graduate level. The "talk monster" radio station has all of the right-wing radio personalities present, and then there's Jim, purporting crackpot theories to satisfy the listeners of Hannity and Rush.

Intelligent design? That's like "partial birth abortion." It's completely Orwellian. Both terms have nothing to do with science.

A couple of days ago, I was driving home from Tech and I heard Jim alarming people about the "Amero"--a fictional form of currency that World Nut Daily has been pushing.

Jim announced his source more than once, and I could not believe it. He was obviously pandering to an increasingly dwindling political crowd.

"Talk Monster" is Propaganda Monster.

So is Air America Radio (as a reaction to the right-wing radio propaganda). Can't we have some semblance of rational and civil discourse...anywhere?

18. But how big of an audience does this show have?
If it's minimal, you'll just be telling them that if you stir up controversy, that people will complain. They don't care if it's negative or positive, just so long as they get it. And if they get that attention, they'll keep at it. See Ann Coulter for prime example of this theory in motion.
