When talk show hosts are guests on another show - like Bill Maher |
|
Yesterday when I watched Colbert on Larry King, he described his show at a mockery of the pundits who tend to raise their voices. The immediate image in my mind was Chris Matthews.
However, earlier on Bill Maher, he had two hosts: Tucker Carlson and Joy Behar (I think that this is her name) both have their own shows. They were constantly yelling, drowning each other and poor Paul Krugman who could not get a full sentence there. And I am sure he would have had a lot more interesting things to say.
Hey, Bill - how about limiting the hosts in your panel to only one?

he was totally drowned out by that idiot Carlson.

4. Maher himself seemed intimidated by carlson |
|
Joy Behar was not bad. She got off a lot of zingers but she wasn't able to beat the crap out of *ucker with facts. Krugman could do it but carlson just shouted over him and Maher sat there like a wuss and let it go on.
It was one of the most disappointing maher shows I've ever seen. And it could have been one of the best.
Oh well at least we were able to hear directly from former Pres. Fox of Mexico how scared of horses the boy king is. He was pretty contemptuous of the chimp.

12. Wouldn't know, never watch any of them |
|
and, I suppose, Carlson was supposed to have been the one "on the right." Maher does not have easy time finding them, not with his audience. But one should be enough.

But they didn't read it "Hey Tucker, do you think you will still have your job at MSNBC on Monday? Signed John Stewart"
Although in overtime Tucker got Krugman to swear,

9. Squeeky Wheel Gets The Grease |
|
It's the cardinal rule of talk TV...it's not what you have to say, it's how loud you say it. The voice either dominate or obliterates an oponnent...it's a weapon and attention getter. This game is taught by the Repugnican spinners who have prepped many of the bobble heads who show up on TV these days. And TV producers love it! It's "action", it's "compelling". Hell, if they didn't fight, it'd be like Public TV.
One doesn't get on TV without the ego and the tact of a soap dish. Careers are made on how well they can put down someone else or can outshout the other guy.
I was joking that Joy looked like she was having a day off...considering she's had to shout with the best of 'em.
If you really want to hear what Krugman has to say, wait until he's on Charlie Rose.

10. HE NEEDS TO MODERATE!!! |
|
If he insists on having loadmouthed blowhards like Carlson on his show, for fucks sake don't let him talk over your OTHER GUESTS.
I have NEVER seen him say "let him/her finish". Not once. He just lets whoever is the loudest and won't shut up take over his entire fucking show.
Bill, is this your show or not? Because anyone can sit there.
What a fucking waste of Krugman. Yet again, another quality guest silenced by some windbag asshole. Why bother.

17. Agreed. I was INCENSED that Maher allowed that little shit to |
|
ride roughshod over someone as important and prescient as Krugman. It was embarrassing, and on a liberal show, too! Maher should ENFORCE civility in EVERY show, or the loudmouths prevent intelligent discourse yet again. It's maddening.

22. Maher really needs to bend backward to attract right wingers |
|
since it is clear both he and his audience are liberals. Yes, on occasions he zings at the Democrats - like the Armenian Holocaust comment - but, hey there is so much more to criticize the Republicans. Thus, if he would appear to "take a side" with Krugman vs. Tucker...
I think that he actually is having hard time recruiting conservatives. Ann Coulter would gladly come, she did once, a few years ago, and even Maher realized that he really does not need that much of a loose cannon. Though she certainly brings awareness to shows that have her.
For example, if he'd had a quiet conservative, that guest would have hard time getting his/her comments against the super hyper Joy Behar. And if Maher would have tried to moderate her, he would be attacked as a misogynist (as happened before).
Bottom line, it takes a special set of skills to moderate a multi panel show. One way is Chris Matthews' just shouting down everyone.

as probably the only Conservative. Still, he needs to remember that his was not his show but, I suspect he came prepared to be in the minority and to make sure that his comments were heard.

Krugman could have been on with Mos Def & Cornell West! :D
Btw, that was my most favorite Maher show, ever. MD & CW literally stole the show that night. I'm going to record it when it's on aired again.

And Joy could be heard laughing mostly during "New Rules." Otherwise, she was drowned out by the bow-tied squealer.
