'There was something that made him go over the hill'

A 32-year-old man who killed his estranged wife and two stepchildren in Fort Worth held Arlington police at bay for several hours Friday afternoon, holed up in his car, before speeding off and driving into Lake Arlington, where he shot himself in the head.

At about 1 p.m., Fort Worth police responded to Jackson's estranged wife's home in the 2100 block of Mims Street in east Fort Worth. Inside, they found Lisa Ford Jackson, 36, and her two children from a previous marriage -- a 13-year-old girl and 10-year-old boy -- dead from gunshot wounds.

Police and neighbors said the couple had recently separated and may have been having financial troubles.

"Why? Why do adults make kids pay for their problems?" said a tearful and visibly shaken neighbor, Kaye Miles.
