Shut Up and Sing
I just watched it and OMG. What those Dixie Chicks went through is disgusting.

It is the epitome of what is wrong with this fuckin country. Of course I heard about it, but really and truly, shame on me, I never really knew, until I saw this documentary.

The most touching part is how they stuck together through it. What they went through reminded me of what I learned about the Red Scare. And come to find out, I know call me stupid, is that "the website which shall not be named" was the start of it all.

For you Andy and for the little boy who needs health insurance, the Chicks would make you proud!

If you haven't seen it, please watch and support these women. I have never purchased one of their CD's, but I will the next time I'm at the store.

If the Chicks were ever to read this, I want them to know how much hope they have given me and how their plight has made helped me to understand to never ever give up to these fascists.

2. If you don't think you would like the Dixie Chicks because you don't like country...
My name here is in honor of a band called Gentle Giant, which was one of the most experimental and innovative progressive rock bands of the 70s. I am not a "prog snob" or an elitist, but I have never had much patience for country music (to put it mildly).

I bought the "Taking the Long Way" CD just to show my support for the band after the whole ordeal they went through. I thought it would just end up on my shelf with the other hundreds of titles I have and that it would be pretty much ignored, but since I bought the damn thing I felt it deserved at least one good listen.

It's "country" in the same way the Eagles were country. It sounds a lot more like pop-rock music with a country flavor to it, and it's actually quite good. Even to my odd time signature and unidentifiable chord-loving ears. :)

3. Cool, I'm definitely gonna go out and get the CD. I am not a country fan.
But I love that song, not ready to make nice.

9. The first song on the CD is my favorite.
It's called "Taking the Long Way 'Round" (I think). What I really love is that you can sing along with all of 'em. Great stuff. I totally agree with whoever compared the Chicks' "country style" to the Eagles. They are pretty rock-ish, if you ask me.

4. If you really want to help the Chicks, buy a concert ticket
rather than (or at least in addition to) a CD. They get hardly anything from CD sales, but they make a lot more from concert tickets.

I love the Chicks :hi:

but I'm sure they'll be back East before too long!

15. I'm Going To Try And See One Of The Shows
I'd definitely like to show my support for these ladies.

A combo with The Eagles should be pretty damn good.

I got a dvd and loved it. They do make money from merchandise, so buy a t-shirt too.

5. I am not a Country Music fan either, but I bought the Chicks
latest CD and found that I loved it. I also found a second one of theirs that I really liked, FLY. Try both.

7. so true, I was so sad for them, mad for them, scared for them, scared
for myself, scared for my country.

And I was truly touched how they stand as one against this.

They are truly powerful women!
