Why not? It would allow him to actually have some say in US environmental policy. He would still be able to travel the world delivering his warning.

2. I think you have a misunderstanding of the job re: "travel the world". |
|
It is not even a Cabinet position.

6. It can always be elevated to a cabinet position. Doing that |
|
also sends a message that it is a priority.

For one thing, EPA only affects the U.S., what's needed is global leadership.

9. The president can give or take power away from any position. |
|
If this is as big as they say, maybe the EPA should be a cabinet position.

4. Gore would have more impact working just as he is right |
|
now than as Secretary, EPA. He could not be permitted to outshine the President. Too narrow afocus.

Next to none, it appears. Hop in, Al! Running is the BEST exercise.

12. It will become different with a Democratic President and Congress. |
|
These chickenshits will follow the will of the people, if they have control. At least, that is what I hope.

8. Supreme Court or President |

Either one will do, but a Justice Gore would be around for a long, long time.

13. Y'know, I have seen several threads with this theme. |
|
I may not be an expert about leaders but I sure as hell know you don't put a race horse in harness to pull a plow. Besides that fact, it would be an insult to even offer him such a mundane job---a former eight year vice president, an emmy award winner, an oscar winner, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, fer crissakes!, former congressman, film producer. Good grief! This man probably has more direct influence on the world than just about anybody you can think of.
Perhaps he and the former president could pool their remarkable resources and form a new world organization or some such. But epa head? P.U.! Peeouw.

14. A president can elevate or degrade any office. If it is an emergency, |
|
it might be elevated. Look what bush did to State. He made it irrelevant. He made the Vice President even more powerful than the president. bush degraded the CIA by making it part of a big new department.
Job discription is everything, and the president can make it top priority.
