So Jon Stewart Respects A PROFESSIONAL LIAR As A Person?
Can someone explain to me why?

This guy is a PHONY. Something like 90% of what comes out of his mouth is Deception and Fraud. He SPINS faster than the teacups at Disneyland.

Yet HE'S RESPECTED???

How the Fuck does someone like this become so successful?

Why does our society reward dishonesty? Is that really what it takes to get ahead?

1. Oh, jeez.
This happens every time Jon interviews a GOP'er.

Jon's a comedian. An ENTERTAINER. Neither he nor Colbert have ever made themselves out to be completely partisan.

Did you really expect him to say "You, sir, are a MONSTER! Get OFF of my show!" Then why have him on in the first place?

Anyway, don't get him and Olbermann mixed up--one's on MSNBC, the other on Comedy Friggin' Central.

3. The Stewart fans are going to have a heart attack if a Democrat wins in 2008
Because they will be lampooned by Stewart, Colbert, all other comedians, the late show hosts, the news, etc.

12. No - the Stewart fans will be fine. Those who think he is a Liberal Spokesperson, however,
will be raging.

16. No, I Think I Sense His Pattern
He's trying to become more mainstream. More Leno/Lettermanish in some ways. Which is why I find myself enjoying Colbert Report more than TDS these days. I know that if Colbert has a guy like Billo on, you're not going to get honest compliments and "respect." I think Stephen has More Balls than Jon, and he's not afraid to throw a guest "under the bus," if it means he gets his point across in a sarcastic and devious manner.

36. He's also a decent human being...
He doesn't have people on his show just to humiliate them (otherwise people wouldn't come on). He's polite and respectful to his guests (O'Reilly being the one exception), and he tries to at least find something positive about them.

38. The opposite of "humiliate" is not "declare respect for"...
just saying there's some middle ground there... and that even though I don't expect Jon to say nasty things to repukes or make them out to look like villains (as if they needed help)... I did find the 'respect' comment to be a little weird.

26. Did you see what happened when Bill O'Reilly went on Jon Stewart?
He did indeed throw him under the bus because he couldn't fucking stand him anymore.

You seem to be under the impression that the whole point of having right wing guests on is so that Jon can humiliate them. That's not his objective and I don't think that it should be. He at least tries to have honest dialogue which is the whole point of having someone come on his show in the first place. Only when they act like assholes like Bill O'Reilly did on his show does he feel the need to retaliate.

20. There are a lot of people who think they like Stewart - but that's because the Repubs are
in power so they're the butt of most of the jokes. As soon as he starts ribbing the Dem president it's going to be all "They got to Jon Stewart!"

2. Jon wants to talk to these people. When he establishes a give and take, he rewards that.
If he blasted every single conservative with high-handed condemnation, none would show up on his show. As it is, he is able to be polite -and- extremely critical in such a way that we can continue to get tough questions asked of these people. And that's great.

15. It's A Requirement To Respect & Feel Sorry For Dying People
When you're dying, it's the law that you get more of a pass on being a DICKHEAD and a LIAR.

30. I don't know if it's a requirement or not
I don't know if it's a requirement or not, but it's certainly the civil thing to do-- and I happen to think that Progressives as a whole are generally more civil than the right. I'm civil to pretty much all the dickheads and liars that I know-- I'm not giving them a pass, but at the same time, I'm not giving myself a pass to stoop down to their level.

But that's just me...

8. I'm Talking Broader Picture Here
Snow is a Professional LIAR. I don't understand why our society seems to hold respect for a job whose main function is to LIE and SPIN as deceptively as possible.

And honestly I wouldn't lose sleep if TDS didn't ever have conservatives on. I don't miss them on Countdown, and I wouldn't miss them on TDS.

There's a reason that Colbert seldom has repubs on. He tends to be more pointed and sarcastic in his remarks towards them, unlike Stewart, who almost seems honored to have a REJECT like TS on.

And I'm supposed to somehow feel sorry because MR. PROFESSIONAL LIAR is dying? WHY? 10's of troops are dying each day in Iraq, and I bet you any amount of money that TS is not feeling the least bit sorry for them.

14. TS Lies 99% Of The Time
Politicians LIE, but he LIES with a regularity and comfort that is almost surreal.

I feel myself YELLING at the tv screen, while Mr. Stewart is sitting there complimenting him, and laughing as if they were discussing paris hilton.

He was the fucking voice piece of this administration, and he's a 2 Bit Phoney, just like his former boss.

And the fact that it's more of the same, until his last breath on this earth, that I feel much less remorse for his situation. I have a limited amount of grief and prayer to give, and I would rather use it on someone like Elizabeth Edwards, than him.

18. Respecting your guests.....lunacy!
The guy gets presidents of other countries on his show...he must be doing SOMETHING right. Moreover, even when he has repug assholes, he does ask them some tough questions, albeit in a funny and respectful way.

I don't get what people want...do they want him to angrily attack his guests? Do they want him to have NO political guests (because I'm pretty sure that if you get into the habit of attacking political figures, other politicians will likely stop coming on your show).

21. Stewart is spin deconstructor, not a partisan hack.
He tried to corner Tony several times, but Tony is actually smarter than most of the republican partisan hacks so he was able to deflect and weasel out and did not fall into a trap as much as, for example, Lynn Cheney did couple of days ago.

Tony on the other hand showed that he cannot be honest when talking about Bush administration. He kept deflecting and spinning.

John did a good job, but, unfortunately, there was no knockout moment where he would have showed Tony as saying stupid things or lying.

22. He has zero obligation to us. He's a comedian.
If he does have any obligation, it's to be funny. Which, last time I watched "The Daily Show", he is. The show is on Comedy Central. Hence the "comedy" aspect of "The Daily Show". It was never intended to be a straight news show.

25. What do you expect him to say "Your an Effing Liar, don't come back?" That would be idiotic.
It's better to get these guys to come on the show for what would be probably the toughest questions and expose their lies in front a much wider audience than to allow them to remain on only networks like Fox and spew lies and have them accepted.

Pleasantries are a way of keeping your enemy close. And besides, EVERYONE, politician or not, lies. It's just Tony's job to do Bush's lying. And he's still playing the part. Let him lie and let Jon expose the obviousness of that lie.

32. He does poke fun at the current congress' inability to do anything.
When the Dems are in control he will find things to make fun of them about, the only thing is is that the pukes have been so awful, and so corrupted it is not hard to get material. We'll hear alot of blowjob jokes, but who knows maybe the Dem that wins next year will provide us with actual amusing instances instead of having to make fun of the blatant disregard for laws and the constitution.

35. Oh grow up.it's the white house press sec's job to lie.
the press secretary needs to constantly lie in order to keep in the game. Even Keith Olbermann says he personally likes Tony Snow. If you want insulting shouting and mike being cut off stick with O'Reilly & Hannnity. As far as respecting someone in most cases it is possible to respect a person and totally disagree with them. I can't bring myself to respect high placed member of this administration but the poor bastard they send out to take the darts isn't high enough in my estimation.

I'll add my "dumb" to yours.

I don't expect Jon to crucify his RW guests... but there's a great deal of difference between treating someone in a respectful manner and openly declaring how much you respect them.
