Mixed feelings on kids' health insurance
That's the title of the article- and as "proof" we have a Gallup poll.

A majority of Americans trust Democrats to handle the issue of children's health insurance more than President Bush, but they agree with the president that government aid should be targeted to low-income families, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll shows.

Two days before the Democratic-controlled House attempts to override Bush's veto of a five-year, $35 billion expansion of the State Children's Health Insurance Program, the poll shows that opinions on the issue are mixed.

Fifty-two percent of respondents say they have more confidence in Democrats to deal with the issue, compared with 32% for Bush.

Slim majorities back two positions at the core of the president's opposition to the expansion:

Not to be outdone, David Stout in the NY Times echoes on:

President Bush today defended his veto of a popular children’s insurance program but said he was willing to negotiate with Democrats if they make up their minds to put the well-being of poor children first.

“My attitude is, let’s help the poor children,” Mr. Bush said at an appearance in Rogers, Ark. “Let’s make sure the program does what it’s supposed to do.”

With this as journalism, is it any wonder that America finds itself in the shape it's in?

1. We ALL know that when B*sh says "negotiate with the Democrats"
he means "beat them over the head with the media until they give us what we want".
The media is their best cudgel.

2. Why do republicans hate American children?
The Gallup poll is not mixed. The majority is clear. Pass the F***ing bill. While we can still call this country a banana republic.

3. Lets see...
If you are a family that Bush does not consider 'poor' but you can't afford health insurance for your kids what is going to happen if one or more of your kids get very sick? In this day and age you will probably be poor real quick. Bush might as well admit that the real point is that he will not allow the Democrats to pass anything that might help the middle class because that is the Democrat's strongest constituency. Along with the idea that if you give to the 'poor' and deny 'the middle' you hope to cause division between those two Democrat constituencies.
