Besides... on some level, didn't they enjoy it?

He was OPPOSED to the WAR. He called Bush and Cheney WAR CRIMINALS.

It's helpful to have a few facts in your pocket before you post such drivel.

He may be an asshole, but he's NOT an RNC mouthpiece, and only anyone ignorant of his show and its content would make that kind of accusation.

If he were an RNC mouthpiece, I wish they had more just like him. We'd have 90 seats in the Congress if that were the case.

Well... that settles it, Red-- I have a thing for sad, little creatures who fight over nothing. Therefore-- tonight at 7pm, my place. Pasta salad and wine, plus a fight over nothing (just to make sure you're entertained)-- I'll make a list of topics we can fight over...

1. Cowboys really are petter than the Pats.
2. Jazz does *not* sound like a saxophone regurgitating cheap liquor.
3. Checkmate is not always an innuendo.
4. Apologies are good enough on DU (Oops! doubt we can argue over that one as we both know it's not..)
5. My candidate is better than your candidate!!!!

I like argument and discussion... I really can't stand petty bullshit that does nothing to help anything (except one's own ego).

And I would prefer the topic about apologies being good enough... cause I think they are. The rest is all subjective. :hi:

15. You may not like Imus, but he is no 'RNC mouthpiece'
His firing from MSRNC was due in large part to his anti-administration rants. The man called both Cheney and Rumsfeld "war criminals" on the air.

As an aside, good to see he'll be back - the hysteria over his lame womens basketball joke was far more revealing of the authoritarian left than of Imus.

7. He's opposed to the war and he hates Bush.
That's two things in his favor.

He apologized. Often. That's three--I haven't seen Limbaugh or his ilk apologize for ANYTHING.

I think he's pretty shitty to Senator Clinton, unreasonably so.

He's completely wrapped around his wife's finger--of course, if you looked like him, you probably would be, too.

He's into raising money for children with cancer, he's getting greener the older he gets, and he is what he is.

He's got a schtick that is well past its sell-by date. I'd like to see him co-host a show with Wanda Sykes, myself. That might fly.

In any event, I'll listen to his show--if it's got a better format, I'll keep listening. If he can get the political interviews again, I'll be delighted--we're not hearing any of that anymore.

Anything's better than that drivel on MSGOP. That's unwatchable.

43. The guy frequently drove me up the wall, as well.
But the level of discourse, when it wasn't chidish in the extreme, was sometimes very good.

He had some good guests, and when he did, he did two things that I really liked:

1. He asked hard questions, the ones that I would ask. And it didn't matter if the guest was a lefty or a rightie.

2. He let the interviewees ANSWER. He wouldn't let them give a non-answer, but he'd make them, AND let them, answer the question.

I enjoyed that aspect of the show. Sometimes my blood would boil and I'd roll my eyes, and when it got too absurd, I'd vote with the remote, but there were times when it was worth listening to.

It will be interesting to see if he can get his old guests back--that's what will make or break him.

35. He sure DID!!!!!
And once he started doing it, all of those righties that had that secret, bad feeling about this misadventure in the ME got up the courage to say they had a problem with it, too.

I hate to tell ya, more than seventy percent of this country was for this shit mess we're in, once upon a time. Are all of them to be permanently excoriated because they didn't get the spirit soon enough to suit your enlightened ass? Geez, Jack MURTHA had better watch out--he was in that club, too!

Imus was one of the wrongheaded fools who had the guts to admit he was WRONG, and he was one of the guys who turned war supporting nitwits around and changed their minds.

But hey--your point is WHAT?

That because he didn't get on the bus soon enough to suit you, that he can't have a ride???

Give me a break. That's a pisspoor attitude for a so-called progressive. It's rigid, asinine, and rather CONSERVATIVE--no changing minds!!! Status quo!!!! You ARE what you ARE, and you can NEVER evolve!!!

If they don't meet YOUR timetable for enlightenment, they're to be forever left in the dark?

Thanks for displaying those true colors so clearly, there!! No quality of mercy in your heart, ever! You're no liberal, not with that attitude.

63. I'd be happy to, there, DON.
When you go to WR as a civilian Distinguished Visitor, the General running the joint meets you at the door, which enters into a magnificent, super high ceilinged lobby, after you stop at the gate and tell the guard there who the fuck you are and why you are visiting--because if you don't have a blue sticker on your car and an ID card, you ain't gettin' in.

The General, and his Public Information Officer (PAO in the USN, but same job), take the distinguished visitors on a very careful, closely monitored, GUIDED tour to specific wards that are clean, tidy and not too crowded. The new Physical Therapy and Rehab center is always a centerpiece of the dog and pony show, because you can always get a load of some poor fucker hopping around on a bionic man prosthesis.

Where these guys were billeted wasn't anywhere NEAR the hospital proper. Wander over to the campus sometime, if you're ever in the DC region--it's on Georgia Avenue right off the beltway. Easy to get to. Lotsa parking in the underground garage if you get there early enough. And can get in. Or know someone who will sign you in.

Christ, you'd have to be a clueless fool with no concept whatsoever to think that anyone and everyone are allowed to meander around the facility unescorted, if they don't have business and access. Don't you realize that area in front of GA Ave is the site of countless demonstrations when they're bringing the wounded in? They're quite vociferous, too.

What were McCain and Imus supposed to do? Blow off the General, hitch up their artificial hips, and make a run for it?

Or any billeting? Because that's where the PROBLEMS were.

Do you know how much fucking billeting is on that campus?

I'm not buying what you're PUSHING...because you aren't making a sale at all.

You're making assertions with no knowledge.

I can't see why a Senator and a radio jock would want to go look at barracks rooms. They are pretty much the same at any military facility--bed, locker, desk, tv, crappers. Some fancier than others. How would that advance their appreciation of what the wounded were enduring?

They went there to see patients in BEDS--in the WARDS--and there was nothing wrong with the wards.

But I'm thinking maybe you don't have a clear understanding of what the problems were, there. Sure looks that way, since you seem to think they should have been doing barracks inspections....

Let's all enjoy the snark, now!

But to answer your question seriously:

Actually, I did enjoy those exchanges with Holy Joe, because they showed the guy to be exactly what he is. By his own words we came to know him.

How are you going to understand someone unless they speak, and they speak in what they feel is a safe venue?

I also enjoyed his exchanges with John Kerry, Harold Ford, Bill Richardson, and even the GOP asswipes. I liked the variety of pundits he had on his show, even when I didn't agree with them. He sometimes brought a good book or two to the nation's attention. It beat the hell outta Cuppa Joe, the RNC stooge, on MSNBC now.

If I could have understood what Imus was mumbling about when he "interviewed" people, I might have enjoyed it. 10 years ago when Lieberman was still "normal" he was interesting to listen to. The last few times he was on he was just spouting Bush's talking points.

I am not implying you are a Lieberman lover. I actually did vote for Lieberman twice (once for VP and once for Senator in 2000 when he ran against Phil Giordano - look him up!!1!!)

Lieberman did cause me to vote republic once (for Weiker in 88)

I much preferred his replacement on our local progressive station (Rachel Maddow, who has been replaced by Bill Press - also an improvement over imus)

53. That's not true
If the last time he was on, he was spouting Bush's talking points, they include:

Bush is a war criminal.
Bush and Cheney should be hanged.
Cheney likes to shoot lawyers.
The Iraq war is WRONG.
Too many kids have died.
Walter Reed is a (expletive deleted) disgrace.

And that's just for starters.

Don't believe me. Check his transcripts. He did anything BUT spout the RNC/GOP party lines. I swear, that's why he got fired. The offense, of which he was plainly guilty, was just an excuse. Truth is, he offended all the time, and no one ever cared before he started getting really rough on the GOP. But that certainly gave them valid justification for getting rid of a thorn in the GOP side. Of course, they could have used his sin as a teaching opportunity, too. But they wanted him shut up.

His interviews were great, because they were NOT about him. He asked substantive questions, and pulled surprising answers out of people, both left and right. He's a good interviewer. He's NOT a liberal, though, any more than he's a conservative. He's one of those people in the great mushy middle who represent the majority of the electorate. He's tacking leftward the older he gets, under the influence of his wife, who's very environmentally conscious. But he isn't a liberal, and he never will be. But that doesn't make him a GOP cheerleader, either.

I didn't know any progressive stations even carried him. I thought he was in the CBS/Infinity universe, with that side deal from MSNBC.

Now he's over at WABC, they say, starting in DEC. ABC is a GOP-ish outfit, but I think they are trending left because they see what way the wind is blowing. CBS, ironically, is trending right. Walter Cronkite has gotta be irritated....

IMUS re: WALTER REED:

Keep in mind, he is NO FRIEND to 'liberals' either, but here's one of the
WAR CRIMINAL remarks (with CSPAN comments, as well):

This is the kind of discussion I got a kick out of
(Listen to Tweety drop the F bomb):

And this one, on the Saddam hanging and who else should be hanged:

I always tell people to vote with their remote when they don't like what they're hearing/seeing. I just don't like General Electric, Top Ten Pentagon Contractor and owner of GE-MSNBC, doing my voting FOR me.

55. Whoa! I was referring to Lieberman, NOT Imus.
Imus said he was voting for Kerry, IIRC.

48. I was really pleased when WWRC-1260 dumped him a couple of years ago!
Both Rachel Maddow and now Bill Press are a HUGH improvement.

Hell just get it over with and go full out. Then they could have David Duke on there as a corespondent.

50. Imus's sense of humor requires him to make jokes at
someones else's expense. I have never found this type of humor funny I'm more the "shared experience" humor kind of guy. Now mind you certain people are asking to be made fun of, politicians and celebs for example, but Imus also uses race as a criteria for determining who he makes fun of. I couldn't stand to listen to him before and I won't be tuning in after. I don't care what his politics are.

I do love how your thread got hijacked for a cat fight though.. Go DU! :eyes:

country as one of their talking heads! Of course he's going to defend Imus' racist remarks! PAT BUCHANAN IS A RACIST HIMSELF! Why is he even allowed on the air? It's disgusting how acceptable racism has become in this country. It makes me sick.:grr: Tweety also acts like he just adores the man.

Imus should never be allowed on the airwaves again! WTF?
