Girls Forced To Leave Football Game Over Painted Bodies
Cummings: 'We Did It To Show School Spirit'

MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Two girls at a Florida high school were booted from a football game for painting their bodies to show school spirit, even though boys with painted bodies were allowed to stay.

Manatee High School student Monica Cummings, 17, and her friend Jessyca Altenbach, 17, painted their entire bodies in school colors for a big game this week.

However, both were kicked out of the game in the first quarter.

"People think we did it to be rebellious senior teenagers but we did it because we wanted to show school spirit," student Monica CummingS said. "That's all we did it for."

School district policy states that it is up to administrators to decide whether something is appropriate or not and in this case, the principal decided that the girls' outfits were not appropriate.

6. IMO.....
....they look just fine to me and I am a senior female who is kind of conservative regarding matters of appropriate dress. If I give them a pass, it is hard for me to see where in any manner they were offensive to anyone. In fact, I think they look kinda cute with what they have done!

I sure as hell have seen less appropriate outfits on HS kids who are walking home from school and it sure as hell does not look like those offensive outfits were not allowed to be worn all day long in school.

Out of line to send to bar them IMO.

8. They look like T-Shirts.
And if it was clean enough to picture, they're clean enough to stay.

What is EVERYONE'S hang-up with exposure? Seriously.

10. Would they have been allowed to stay without the paint or was it
the bathing suit tops that they wore? I don't see anything wrong with what they are wearing, paint or no paint. If they were kicked out, the boys should have been kicked out also.

12. Yes -- inappropriate to kick them out.
And inappropriate to not treat males the same.

3. Jesus! How many times on TV
Especially at college football games, you see young women painted with colors or the names of their schools. This wasn't a case of Lake Havasu here. The Taliban rules Manatee County Florida!

9. "Offside" (Iranian film)
I just happened to watch this very enjoyable Iranian film by Jafar Panahi on DVD recently.

It's about six Iranian girls who dress as boys to be able to get into the stadium for the big Iran-Bahrain soccer (football) game. (Though fictional, it was actually shot at that game, which Iran won and went on to the World Cup games.) Women are not allowed to attend games, because they might be ... sitting near men not their brothers or fathers, or overhear some swear words. Of course, they all get caught and arrested .... and it's a charming philosophical comedy of relations between the annoyed soldiers charged with guarding them and the annoyed girls, who don't understand why they can't go in (after a while, neither do the soldiers, but they're under orders).

Highly recommended ... especially in light of our own gender-inflected sports rules imposed by the moral arbiters of Florida.

16. That's my alma mater
I graduated from Manatee High in the early 60's. Funny how little changes in 40+ years. Back in Jr. High, it was Walker Jr High then, I was expelled for the day because I and several of my friends came to school in sack dresses made from towels. Every thing was well covered but it was the bathroom towels that made it so suggestive in the principals eyes. We thought it was pretty cool.
