Hey I just got Sirius
What are the best shows on the "Sirius Left" channel?

1. I'm listening to "My Old Kentucky Blog" on "Left Of Center" right now.
I LOVE Sirius. I hardly ever listen to my iPod anymore (got a satellite boombox for my radio). Even cooler, my wife just got a new car and it came with XM, so now we have BOTH! It's heaven. So much new music. It's worth every penny.

BTW, "The Coffee House" is great for Sunday mornings reading the paper. Alt Nation is another favorite. Spectrum is okay if you want "familiar" music for some reason. "Jam On" is indispensable for hi-speed, long distance hiqhway driving (especially since they finally gave the Grateful Dead their own channel).
But the comedy channels on Sirius are a little lacking...too much "Blue Collar" moran humor, but good for a break every now and then.

Enjoy!

5. For music

...I love Sirius Disorder, channel 70. They play a wide range of music and I've found lots of new artists.

Cheers

11. I forgot Sirius Disorder...excellent
Very eclectic...anything they want to play, of any genre. I've got so much new music from that show.

And yes, that channel is now the Grateful Dead channel, but they moved Sirius Disorder to the Jazz section (72, I believe) for some reason. But on my radio, the channels all still show up with their old names.

2. Say away from Lynn Samuels
Edited on Tue Oct-16-07 12:21 PM by NYVet
Her voice grates on you and the topics are even more inane than most talk radio.

They do have Mike Malloy on nightly, the time they play him is not on the tip of my tongue right now though.

3. Second this - Samuels is beyond ridiculous
Her voice doesn't bother me as much as her topics. She's all over the place and it's really hard to follow the pacing of the show (if there is such a thing)

8. She and Alex Bennett believe they were hired because people want to know their most
Edited on Tue Oct-16-07 12:37 PM by Judi Lynn
trivial, pointless "thoughts" on everything. They have decided they don't need to bother their beautiful geriatric minds doing their homework, keeping abreast of current events, bringing on leftists people to make informative discussions available for Sirius listeners who have bought satellite radio specifically to be able to hear leftist radio!

Oh, no. They want to talk about THEM. What THEY like to eat, what THEY like to buy, and their favorite, THEIR FAVE MOVIES AND TV SHOWS. Alex used to discuss his bowel movements, Lynn occassionally rehashes the fact she used to pork a married guy and occassionally sees his son around town and wonders if she should approach the guy and tell him she had an affair with his father.

He would probably faint, if she did!

These two apparently either are related to the people in charge, or are blackmailing them. They are an INSULT to anyone who has lived for years with Rush and Sean, and Dr. Laura, and looked forward to Air America, and bought Sirius, only in time to have Sirius drop them altogether.

Sirius should recast Mike Malloy and Thom Hartmann in the daytime for people who are busy with loved ones at night and don't hear them. There is NO PLACE ANYWHERE for Lynn Samuels and for Alex Bennett. I always turn off the radio altogether until their shows have passed. They are vile, empty, stupid, lazy people.

10. Lynn is like having a new yawk friend. Eh, all my people are from Queens so
maybe I just find her voice soothing. To me, she's great, and I do not miss a show!

16. I would suspect a great many people turn to Sirius LEFT specifically to have access
to real Democratic programs, concerning POLITICS and real CURRENT EVENTS not related to shopping, or any tv programs, radio programs, actors or singers, or even less universal topics.

She could carry on a show like that on almost any channel they could give her, OUTSIDE POLITICS. THAT'S what the radio corporation uses as its selling point for "Sirius Left." Anything LESS is a failure.

There's a specific reason people buy satellite radios when they are looking for political discussion. Nothing short of that, and certainly nothing like the ravings of a burned out, embittered, lost, empty old woman will do.

12. That pretty much sums it up
It's pretty sad when I get into my car or tune in the receiver in the house and she's on - it's almost embarrassing, especially if someone else is in the house with me. I don't mind a little personalization of my talk shows, it adds some humor and some identity to the show, but that's all Samuels does and its not even done well.

Different strokes and all that, but she's an embarrassment to liberal radio and to Sirius. It's a shame that new listeners and curious listeners have to be exposed to her as the "face" of the left.

4. Oops, I just got the "Sirius LEFT" part...
Obviously you weren't asking about the music channels. Oh well, consider my recs for when you're tired of the talk. I don't listen to much talk radio.

9. I ADORE Lynn Samuels and she's the only one worth listening to on SiriusLeft, imho
Not sure why others hate her. She does not toe the line I guess, lol.

13. Different strokes and all that
It's not about toeing the line, it's the lack of substance on her show to meet my taste. Plus, she can be completely abrassive on subjects that don't even matter in the grand scheme of things - i.e. her favorite food.

But that's just me, your mileage may vary. But please, don't characterize it as a matter of whether or not she "toes the line", it's simply not true from my perspective.

Edited on Tue Oct-16-07 02:37 PM by uberotto
And Stephanie Miller on the way home... Don't listen to the others all that often. Sometimes I work a little later than I need to just so my drive home overlaps Steph's show.

15. Gone!.. a word of WARNING!!
Edited on Tue Oct-16-07 02:48 PM by SoCalDem
when you decide to dump Sirius, your must CALL them and get a confirmation number .. I called to cancel, and let the subscription run out (gave the gizmos & antennas to my son)..now a YEAR later they are/were calling me three & four times a day and THREATENING me with legal action if I did not pay the additional $21.00 they had tacked on at the end of my contract..

I had been giving all correspondence to my son, unopened, since he had the thing..and he never installed it.. it's still in his garage in a box..

for my convenience (hah!) they tacked on "auto-renew", for me.. :grr:

bastards..

I finally sent them a check and emptied a clip of staples into it as I attached it to a complaint letter :)
