MoveOn is not a part of the Democratic Party
They never have been, nor never will be a part of the institution that is the Democratic Party.

They are a special interest group that represents narrow ideological interests who want to influence the process of electing Democratic candidates to public office and controlling the votes of said Democrats in Congress and in state government. Their issues and positions on public policy are not in line with the Democratic Party Platform.

They control no voters, no grassroots movement of active Democrats. They are not bound by any of the rules or procedures of the Democratic Party. They do not have any loyalty to the Democratic Party, to its members or its voters, nor do they consult with its leaders on their mission.

They don't win elections, they don't turn out voters to get Democrats elected. They are no more a part of the Democratic Party than the GOP. Their only goal is to use money and influence to hijack the votes of Democrats in Congress. They could give a rats ass about what voters want.

Just wanted to make that clear.

21. If only the claim of that thread were true.
Unfortunately, the DLC still holds too much power in the Democratic Party.

13. Have you seen the post stating
the exact things about the DLC? This seems to be a response to that. I suppose it could be seen as simply starting a thread to continue an argument.

4. Let's see - I'm a Democrat - I'm a voter - I'm a member of MoveOn
Seems to me that lots of Dems are members of MoveOn - And the members of MoveOn influence the way the organization responds.

Does the DLC respond to anything but corporate influence?

15. heaven or hell?
This should be a topic of its own but my posting numbers won't allow that so, sorry, it goes here.

Adapted from a joke found on Google/Comedy Central

Three guys die and end up at the gates of heaven, talking to St. Peter.

"So," Peter asks the first guy, "how many times did you vote for George W. Bush?"

"Twice! I'm a perfect Republican!"

"Great," says Peter. "You get to cruise around in a Cadillac. And you, how many times did you vote for George W. Bush?"

"Only once," says the second guy.

"Okay. You get to cruise around in a Mercedes. And you, how many times did you vote for George W. Bush?"

"Never! Not once! I'm a Democrat!" says the third guy.

"Okay," says Peter. "You get to drive around heaven in a rusty Ford."

Later that day, the guy in the rusty Ford asked of St. Peter, "Where's the guy with the Mercedes? Where's the guy with the Cadillac?".

"There's in hell giving rides to the guy they voted for."

"Their issues and positions on public policy are not in line with the Democratic Party Platform. "

they sure as hell are

"They control no voters, no grassroots movement of active Democrats"

hahahahaha, nuff said

"They do not have any loyalty to the Democratic Party"

Praise the lord

"they don't turn out voters to get Democrats elected"

I wonder who I've been phone banking for, fer sure I thought it was MoveOn.org

"They could give a rats ass about what voters want."

That's actually their reason for being

"Just wanted to make that clear."

...as mud

7. Neither is VoteVets. Difference between these two groups and the DLC:
they have more respect for Democratic values, e.g., not supporting an immoral war.

18. Demanding to end the War on Iraq is a "narrow ideological interest'?
This OP is absurd, imho.

"They control no voters, no grassroots movement of active Democrats."

True. They don't seek to control voters. They seek to influence sanity in policy.

"they don't turn out voters to get Democrats elected" Baloney!

I worked your state and NH elected Kerry and a Democratic Gov.! :D

As it is, I donate to MoveOn.Org rather than to the national Democratic Party because I consider MoveOn trustworthy.

20. I'm a voter. And a Democrat. And a member of MoveOn.
I know there are hundreds of thousands more just like me.

I've never been under the impression that MoveOn.org is affiliated with the Democratic Party in any way. But it's no surprise that most of MoveOn's members are Democrats.

So what is the point of this post?

24. Actually, compared to DLC, they are a grassroots organization
and

1. their agenda is not narrow

2. no one accused DLC of having a narrow agenda, just one that is controlled by a few corporate interests; they have a rather broad agenda, covering many issues.

3. they do have influence over voters because they are a grassroots organization

4. Move On is a "bottom up" organization because its grassroots based; its legislative agenda is more consensus based; DLC is a "top down" organization on public policy; its decisions are made behind closed doors.
