TX-Sen: Kay Bailey-Hutchinson quitting
Buh bye, Witch!!

It's no fun being in the minority, especially one that's about to become even smaller.

Republican Kay Bailey Hutchison will not seek re-election after her current Senate term and may leave before her term ends in 2012 to run for Texas governor, a spokesman for the senator says.

Hutchison, now in her third full term in the Senate, told Texas Monthly magazine that stepping down in two years "has to be considered." Her comments were confirmed by spokesman Matt Mackowiak.

"Is it better for Texas for me to leave early and give someone else a chance to start building seniority before the class of 2013? I think it probably is," Hutchison said. Excerpts of the interview were posted Monday on the magazine's "State of Mine" feature written by editor Evan Smith.

Hutchison said she has not yet made a decision as to whether to run for the governorship.

"It's too early to be gearing up. I don't want to peak in 2007 for a 2010 race. Would I like to do it? Yes. A lot of things have to happen to make it a reality. You can't plan that far ahead with certainty," she said.

In any case, though, Hutchison said she will not run for re-election to the Senate.

So the big question is whether she rides out her term to 2012 or leaves early in 2010. Here's hoping she leaves early. The 2010 map already looks terrible for Republicans (worse than 2008, if you can believe it), so anything that adds to the GOP's heartburn and weakens their short-term prospects will snowball into more retirements, and even weaker prospects.

15. Not just the "B" word
Elizabeth Edwards was criticized on here for posting the Thomas Jefferson "Reign of witches" quote when referring to the Bush Administration being re-elected in 2004...

A little patience, and we shall see the reign of witches pass over, their spells dissolve, and the people, recovering their true sight, restore their government to it's true principles. It is true that in the mean time we are suffering deeply in spirit, and incurring the horrors of a war & long oppressions of enormous public debt.

2. Ann Richards she ain't.
I hope she looses her sagging ass in her run for Governor, and that puts an end to her miserable political career.

What a harpy.

actually stop freeloading and begin to work at cleaning up the messes they created.

I'll always remember this one voting yes to Clarence thomas on the Supreme Court, stating that she had to give the Nominee the "benefit of the doubt" (I guess for her the country didn't count).

8. She is paving the way for her resignation
This is PR to make it looked like her "early retirement" was planned in advance.

Think Delay and Abramoff -- do you really think she has remained "above it all"?

The republican congress critters in Ohio & Illinois are dropping like flies and we know Texas is more entrenched in the corruption than any of the states cause it is GWB's turf.
