CBS’ Logan: ‘We’re doing extremely badly’ in Iraq.

Last night on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, CBS News’ Chief Foreign Correspondent Lara Logan was asked, “How are we doing” in Iraq? Logan responded, “It’s much worse than the picture, the image we even have of Iraq”:

We’re doing extremely badly, from my point of view. I was asked if I felt any guilt for the fact that the world has an impression of the war in Iraq as being very bad and going very wrong. And I said I really don’t because I can’t imagine the last time anyone saw a dead American soldier. We’ve hidden that from view. Nobody knows what that looks like, and I’ve seen plenty of it. It’s much worse than the picture, the image we even have of Iraq.

In light of a recent Washington Post story reporting that the U.S. had “crippled” al Qaeda in Iraq (AQI), Logan explained that AQI and al Qaeda are “two entirely different things.” “To say that we have crippled them is suicide,” she stated.

1. Iraq has vanished from the news. It's as if the last word was said after
that "report" & they don't want to waste anymore time on it.

2. "crippled AQI" is all too reminiscent of the "body counts" that proved we were winning in Vietnam.

Someone once added up all the "body counts" and discovered that we had killed the entire NVA/VC..twice.

Or, it's like the endless stream of dead/captured #2 leaders of Al-Queda.

3. No, we're about to turn the corner in Iraq
Just a little more surge should do it.
They'll becoming out with the flowers any day now.
And we still might find WMD.
When they stand up, we'll stand down.
If we leave now, they'll follow us home.
If we leave now, it'll be a civil war for sure.

9. Didn't the Iraq Study Group
say that media reports about Iraq were too rosy?

10. Well, Logan, being part of the media, doesn't sound particularly
rosy here. Of course, the ISG's report came out a year ago; maybe 'some' in the media feel more comfortable telling the truth?

12. I'm not sure; I may just curl up and go read a book. It depends on when
it's aired here.

13. How did Lara do interviewing the Blackwater puke last night on 60 Minutes?
I didn't get to see it. I did see some prejudging it as being a puff piece beforehand but I can't see Lara doing that.
