CNN covering drought in Georgia, Bama, etc.
Holy dryness, batman.

I knew that it was dry, but, seeing dry lakebeds, of the major source of drinking water, sheesh.

at least one station is covering the real impact of global warming.

1. You know what I find ironic
the people who scream the loudest that global warming ain't happening, aka the bible belt, are now suffering the effects of global warming

If the drought was a single event... yeah sure, but it is part of the pattern

We may see climate refugees very soon indeed

3. It's pretty bad in Atlanta.
Check out their newspaper. People are encourage to rat out their neighbors, but yet the MacMansions are going up and the golf courses are still green.

And then you have that story in Southern California about the little old lady arrested for not watering her lawn and being hurt by the thug cop.

5. We're going to run out of water by Christmas in our 4 county reservoir in the Athens, GA area
Edited on Tue Oct-16-07 01:25 PM by CottonBear
unless it rains a lot. (We had 1" of rain more than two weeks ago and nothing since.)

:scared: I've lived in NE GA since 1981 and I've never seen it this bad. Ever. :scared:

We are on a total outdoor water ban and more severe measures are just around the corner. We are looking at making sure schools, doctors, nursing homes and hospitals have water and that we have water to fight fires. Other business and homeowners may have to be under phase "F" restrictions but the government officials and the water use committee have not yet decided what phase "F" will involve. :(

I don't flush the toilet unless necessary. I recycle dish and pet water onto my garden plants.
I take "navy" showers and turn of the tap when brushing my teeth.

We should have been doing this 20 years ago. We depend on rivers for water and there has been too much development for the limited water resource to support.

8. I have a water tank bag that I got from the Public Utilities Department
Edited on Tue Oct-16-07 01:29 PM by CottonBear
as part of a free water conservation kit. I got the bag that you fill with water to displace water in the tank and a water saving shower head and faucet heads.

I also got a free rain barrel from the county! (one per household)

Athens is very progressive: a blue dot in a red sea! If anyone can conserve, it's us!

The surrounding red counties are going to have trouble convincing the McMansion people to conserve.

9. Amazing
Denialists are every bit part of the problem.

Take a look around the world. It's obvious that what is occuring is far more dire than what is implied with the term Global Warming and still many folks, Libertarians especially, deny the planet is at a point of ecological meltdown.

11. I am amazed how the government is doing NOTHING
http://youtube.com/watch?v=0k8zkbDAsXI

They need to acknowledge that North Carolina and Florida are also in bad shape as well as Western states

Houston has Dow desalination plant on the ocean
they use it for their chemical plant

but when the Hurricane Rita came Dow stepped up and offered to deliver the water

If America has desalination plants we need to make contracts with them in case of emergency and build more

Australia is building more as we speak
they are expensive and take about 3 years to build

Global Warming is upon us folks and we are behind

13. The current government wil not
that would be a gov'ment that works, and the scariest words in the English Language, according to Ronnie Raygun are

"I'm from the Government and I'm here to help."

Thanks to Hartmann I have memorized this... yes he runs it often to make exactly this point...

They don't want to show the gov'ment works and can help people

Now if you are a private citizen, go ahead... that's the philosophy of the people in charge

*gulp* :wow:

We now have areas in NC where there is "exceptional drought"--beyond extreme.

Didn't know there was such a category.
