What button is your hottest of the hot?
There are no right or wrong answers to this one. And it is easy.

In one or two words, if possible, what is your hottest hot button. What are you most passionate about? What has been your dearest issue for the longest time of your life?

For me, it has to be "Racism".

Much else flows from that. For example, I was concerned about racial issues longer than I have been with gender or sexual orientation issues, but now they all matter passionately to me.

The war matters to me as did the Viet Nam war.

The environment and ......

And ......

But my hottest hot button, hands down, has to be racism.

What's yours?

31. Agreed. Racism. funny but both sides claim the other is racist.
Edited on Tue Oct-16-07 04:15 PM by Blaze Diem
Plenty of racism to get batted around.
'You're racist I'm not - I'm right you're not"
What's the point to contribute to the post when its intent is purely racial flame-bait.

I no longer respond to those few posters who take part and set up others to be flamed.
They need to be reported and shut down by our mods.
This is not the DU I have always known.

9. The war--
any informed public official who is FOR continuing it is, simply put, immoral America-hating toilet-bowl scum who will burn in hell. By "continuing" it, I'm not talking about leaving in residual forces, or a gradual withdrawal--those may be necessary. Exit strategies may vary. But insisting we stay in large numbers, or trying to justify this massive foreign policy disaster in any way, instead of conceding that it must end, is the mark of evil. In short, pretty much the entire GOP.

Seeing a democratic election stolen by a bunch of soulless thugs who proceed to shit on the consitution, allow (or participate in) the worst terror attack in our history, start a war of aggression against a third-world nation and stand by while thousands of poor blacks drown from a preventable catastrophe.

Oh, and having a supposed opposition party who holds their coats while they do it -- that tends to bug me as well.

Nothing gets me pissed off faster than finding out some fake "Christian" fundie is trying to poke their nose in my business or someone else's business.

That goes for Muslim (and all other) fundies too, which is why one of the few flame war types I will participate in at DU is the kind of thread where the misguided "let's all be tolerant" people are trying to defend things like religiously-based punishments for homosexuality or forcing women to wear burkas because it's a sin to show female flesh. Screw that shit.

Tolerance for me = leave me the fuck alone, leave my neighbor the fuck alone, leave everyone the fuck alone, we don't have to believe in your god if we don't want to, and we don't have to follow rules based on your god's rules. In return, I'll leave you the fuck alone too to worship your god the way you want.

33. Religious wack jobs trying to tell me how to have a happy marriage
I've been married for 45 years to the same woman, we're about to become great grandparents and I've been to church maybe a dozen times in the whole 45 years (excluding weddings baptisms and funerals) and yet once or twice a year I'll encounter some asshole who wants to tell me that I'll only have a happy marriage if I accept christ as my "personal savior" (is that anything like a personal shopper or personal trainer?

Usually these are thirty or forty somethings clean shaven well scrubbed and they look like people who've never gotten their hands dirty. Fortunately we live out in the country so they never stop by the house but once in a while we house sit for one of our kids and this is when they get us.

We don't all have to be the same. We shouldn't all be the same. But what kills me is that the worst enemies are always other activists on the left. I might even find someone on the right who is truly committed to their cause, who actually respects me for being truly committed to mine. But on the left you find people who will dislike the strategy you have chosen because you're not in the right organization or your candidate has the wrong position on something blah, blah, blah... so to them you're as bad as a puke.
