New Gallup Poll: Gore stature increases since Nobel but not his standing as a candidate
According to the poll:

58% of all Americans have a favorable view of Gore since the Nobel announcment.

But
54% of all Americans oppose his running for president. 41% support the idea. Among Democrats, overall, his support is equally "tepid" with 48% favoring him running and 43% opposing the idea.

In test match-up, Hillary Clinton continues to dominate:
Hillary: 44%
Obama: 19%
Gore 14%
Edwards 10%

Prior to the Nobel the numbers were:
Hillary: 43%
Obama: 24%
Gore: 10%
Edwards: 10%

I would love Gore to run, but I think he needs to get in this soon.

1. After seeing poll results like this, would YOU run?
Gore is a great leader, but he's not stupid.

What we should be holding our breath on is who he ENDORSES.

3. Like It Matters Who He Endorses
He'll support the nominee, which is going to be Clinton.

I can't imagine he's going to go overboard supporting her, unless he is hoping for some sort of global warming issues payback from a future Clinton administration.

If this poll is correct, which I CANNOT BELIEVE it is, then we're really up a creek, and Hillary is already the next "president."

Hip Hip Hooray.

7. The trouble with these polls
is that most people lower their expectations/vote when someone is NOT in the race yet. The INSTANT he jumps in, it will be a totally different matter.

2. I want to see Gore keep out of this.
Climate change is the most important issue in the world today, and Gore does more now as a private citizen than he could (or ever was able to do) as a politician. I would say his Nobel prize is a declaration that he's doing the right thing, not a call for him to change course.

I love Gore. I respect him more than the entire Presidential field combined. And I want him to keep fighting for humanity, not engaging in the games of politics.

5. But what if he could do things HIS way,
Not politics as usual?

10. Couldn't happen, wouldn't happen.
As President, if you don't play towards what people want to see happen, your polls go down (see: GWB). If you're an unpopular President, Congress as a rule won't do what you want them to, for fear of being contaminated by you (see: GWB).

As President, either Gore becomes a politician as usual, or Gore becomes a one-term lame duck. Why do you think he and Clinton agreed to drop Kyoto? They feared the political fallout from supporting it, and rightly so: an unpopular initiative will not pass Congress, and trying to force it through will leave you a lame duck no matter how long you have left in your term (see: GWB and Social Security privatization).

4. I suspect Gore has been doing his own polling -- that is, if he has been
thinking about jumping in -- and that's why he's been staying out.

6. I think he honestly won't jump into this and doubt he has really been giving it
a lot of consideration either.

11. If you go to gallup's website, you can get to that in three clicks.
Next, we'd like to get your overall opinion of some people in the news. As I read each name, please say if you have a favorable or unfavorable opinion of these people -- or if you have never heard of them. How about (insert name).

It's not like they hide their methodologies. The full releases generally dedicate an entire page to them.
