Another Friday, another news dump. Today Florida Senator and former Bush Cabinet member Mel Martinez became the latest defector to jump off the sinking Bush Crime Family ship. Mel decided to resign his position as Chairman of the GOP, stating: " It was my goal as general chairman to lead the party as it established the structure and raised the resources necessary to support our presidential candidate and ensure Republican victories next November. I believe we have accomplished those goals. I believe that our future as a party and nation is bright and I have every intention of continuing to fight for our president, our party, and our candidates. "

Yeah, the GOP's future is so bright you gotta quit to salvage any hope of being reelected three years from now. Guess you skipped those college courses in logic, eh Mel?

In non-related Washington news, That grat defender of human rights President Chucklenutz issued new sanctions against Burma's government for its repression of the pro-democracy opposition and protestors. Makes you wonder when he's gonna get tough on the Saudis for doing the exact same thing. Oh we have big oil arrangements there, don't we? Nevermind . . .

Over in the Senate, wanna-be Attorney General Michael B. Mukasey refused to define certain interrogation techniques widely used by the U.S. government as torture, all the while condemning torture or abuse of detainees in any form. The L.A. Times reports: "In a testy final day of questioning before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Mukasey drew the wrath of some Democrats on the panel when he refused to say whether he believed that so-called waterboarding, a technique that simulates drowning, constitutes torture that is prohibited by the Constitution."

"I don't know what's involved in the technique," Mukasey said in an exchange with Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, Democrat of Rhode Island. "If waterboarding is torture, torture is not constitutional."

Said Whitehouse: "That's a massive hedge. I mean, it either is or it isn't." He gave a brief description of the practice, but Mukasey still declined to offer an opinion as to its lawfulness."

Great, just what we need, another Attorney General with vague torture definitions and feigned ignorance of the details of interrogation techniques.

I have a bit of a cold, but otherwise we're all doing well. When we brought Screech in for his blood test today, the vet asked us if we would be interested in adopting an abandoned kitten they've been caring for. We got to meet him - he's soooooooooooo damned cute!!! I held him for a while and he just purred. Mr. smokey and I said that we wanted to wait to see how Screech's tests come out before we make a decision. He's black and white and he has a black spot on his nose. I told Mr. smokey that if we take him in, I want to name him Spot.

yesterday. I heard Russ on with Rachel who broadcasting live in Madison, and Russ stated that he will stand with Dodd. I had a conversation yesterday with someone who I've worked with on campaigns with, and she's disgusted with what goes on in our county and state regarding screwing really good candidates. Then I mentioned that even at the federal level, when a Dem tries to stand up like Russ, Dennis, Barbara Lee and a few others, they are marginalized and kicked to the curb by other dems. I've had the biggest damned frog that I've ever seen up close and personal using the place as his (I say his) private resort. He swims around, gets out and suns on the deck then hops back in. He's using the skimmer as his whirlpool and he's so big he covers the bottom of the skimmer basket thus decreasing water flow, so I have to nudge him out of there at times. The oldest and youngest got in and swam around with him when they got home from school.

I'm so disgusted with * and others, that this is the best that I can do! :hi: :hug:

There's a special place in my heart for frogs. Maybe it's a guilt thing from back in my prehistoric high school years when we had to dissect pithed frogs, (Years later the ramp guys at Oakland Airport brought me a huge bullfrog in a box. They'd found him on the ramp while offloading an aircraft. I took him back to my semi-rural area and let him go in a creek.)

The whole frog/creek thing was at least 15 years ago. I often wonder what happened to him.

of frogs and their condition is supposed to be an indicator of the state of the environment. We've noticed less and less frogs, and more that are malformed - not good.
