Here NY Times obituary here: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/20/nyregion/20roraback.html?_r=1&ref=obituaries&oref=slogin

Those of us in the reproductive rights movement cherished Katie for her early work in the landmark case that would serve as an underpinning of Roe v. Wade.

When I worked for Planned Parenthood of CT, I knew her as a sharp lawyer and tremendously dedicated to a system of justice that could get very out of whack. Her family background of staunch Connecticut yankees in the progressive northwest corner of the state was no doubt her strength and refuge.

Katie never shrank from controvery, as when she took an active role in Bobby Seale's trial for killing a Black Panther party member.

When I give little tours of New Haven to my liberal friends and relatives, I always point out the building where Estelle Griswold ran her Planned Parenthood clinic and where she was originally arrested for her defiance of our then state law banning married couples' use of contraceptives. It is one of our city's litlle points of interest to those who want to see where history was made.

RIP, Katie.

3. Thanks. I hope these heroines of the reprod. rights movement will not
be forgotten! BTW, the young doc who was on duty at the clinic the day it was raided continued her private practice for years until her eventual retirement about 3 years ago was my GYN for several years. I was unhappy to have to switch docs...

4. As long as there's one ass clown left in the world
who thinks women are brood mares, yes, it goes on.
