I simply don't understand "the curse of homosexuality"?
Edited on Sat Oct-20-07 11:07 AM by trumad
This is one of the guys Barack Obama will be on stage with:

As religious conservatives gather in Washington this weekend for the “Values Voters Summit,” Senator Barack Obama’s campaign announced its latest effort to attract people of faith to the campaign: a gospel concert tour.

All three of the dates of the “Embrace the Change” tour are in South Carolina, where Mr. Obama is locked in battle with Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton for black voters.

Gospel acts including Mary Mary, Donnie McClurkin and Hezekiah Walker, Byron Cage and the Mighty Clouds of Joy are scheduled to appear.

<snip>

Gospel singer Donnie McClurkin, who has detailed his struggle with gay tendencies and vowed to battle "the curse of homosexuality," said yesterday he'll perform as scheduled at the Republican National Convention on Thursday, despite controversy over his view that sexuality can be changed by religious intervention.

"gay tendencies" brought on by the "curse of homosexuality"? So how does one get the curse? Did they kill a Gay cat? Or maybe walking under a ladder holding a gay carpenter?

I mean is there certain things you have to do to have this curse placed on you?

BTW: Here'ssss Donny.

1. How can Obama go on a GLBT Presidential forum a few weeks back...
and talk about how he supports equality for GLBT people (and, sadly, like almost everyone else there, be hypocritical and oppose same-sex marriage) and yet ally himself with a person who espouses hateful bigotry?

No, for the 1,000,000th fucking time, homosexuality is NOT a sickness, nor a curse, nor something to be "treated" or "cured". It's another part of the human condition. It's what some of us ARE. And I get goddamned sick and tired of this crap.

4. Yeah, that is a problem.
If Obama is the nominee, he's going to have to go after the GLBT vote. It is a sizable voting bloc. But if he doesn't disavow this stuff, he'll have a serious problem with voters such as myself.

2. Now being gay is the new curse. The old one being
black is over in public. In private however every one is on their own. Noose anyone? I fail to see why there must be someone to savage because of something they have no control over. Good christians all.

7. I suppose I could yell out something about being gay, and some people will say they want to
Edited on Sat Oct-20-07 11:23 AM by Neshanic
"kick my ass outa there" and if I had some friends there with me that were women, that would be my problem and I would deserve it. So would they.

I forgot. Is Obama an entertainer or a politician? I keep forgetting.

10. And some question atheists distrust of his pandering to the evangelists
This is just one example of why it is so insidious. He continues to be associated with the sort of people who promote these agendas--of hatred, bigotry, lies, etc. And he keeps pandering to people who want GLBT people, atheists, religious minorities and others to remain second-class citizens.

11. My partner's sister asked him if he could take a pill to turn straight
Edited on Sat Oct-20-07 12:04 PM by MotorCityMan
..would he.

He told her no, and we were talking about it. I wouldn't either. I have never had the desire to conform and "just be like everyone else."

We are both in our 40's now. I said that maybe when I was 12 and first realized I was gay (in 1976), I would have considered it. I don't think, even then, that I would have. I never had a problem with being gay, even as a kid. It was people's attitudes toward gays that was the problem.

I have always thought that, eventually, American society will reach the point where, gay or straight, no one (except the hardcore Holy Rollers) will care. I used to think that would happen in my lifetime, but I no longer think so.

12. I don't care about Obama working for votes from the
religious community. I do resent his pandering to them by carefully telegraphing his homophobia.

14. Obama should do the gig and wear a biggo, honkin' rainbow tie,
just so everyone knows where he damn well better stand. And he oughta whisper to Donnie that the reason Christian "intervention" hasn't cured the "curse" is because they haven't been praying about the real curse: bigotry.

21. I'm gay and I agree with you
I don't even think it's all that dirty. There are violent frothing at the mouth homophobes, and then there are people who mean well, but are maybe misguided and a little ignorant. Reaching people who aren't mouth frothing homophobes is a process. It's a process that even us gay people spent a lot of time and effort to accept ourselves for who we are. One of the best ways to build a bridge to others is emphasize the common ground as apposed to accentuating the division.

23. I have many problems with Obama.
First is lack of experience.
Second is when he insulted all the Baby Boomers.
Third is this teaming up with anti-gay people.
